So I have Audacity, which I like but I can't seem to export my files into Mp3, which I need to upload them on reverbnation or really anywhere.

I just want something semi-simple where I can record keyboard with my singing over it without much background fuzz. Basic editing but nothing too complex and nothing I need to pay for.

Any ideas???

I have Audacity also and it used to allow me to export it into a mp3 but when I tried just recently it would not let me do it.  Was wondering if they have changed their format.

What kind of file format does it let you export to? If you know that, you can google (convert "your format" to MP3) and come up with something. I doubt you'll need to spend any cash on a converter like that. Additionally, if you were to get it onto youtube, you could use a free "Link to MP3" converter. Those are all over the web.

It will only let you export raw data and when you click on it, it takes you back to Audacity play it.

I don't know anything about this, but this same question was posted on another forum and one guy said to try out Reaper.  You can download it here.

You might try re-downloading the lame converter for Audacity.  I had to do that back when I used it.

Have you checked the preferences? I know in iTunes for example, there is a link in a dropdown menu that says "Convert to MP3". But that is solely based on how the preference is set. I can go into the preferences, change how it should be exported and then that link changes into converting it into another format. I do not have Audacity though and like you said Roy, it could be a change Audacity has made for whatever reason.

Just found this online. Don't know what LAME is though. Hope it's not what it sounds like! :)

To convert the files, you first load them in Audacity. Then in the file menu there should be an option saying Export to MP3. CLicking that will save it as an mp3 encoded file. However, this requires the LAME library available at sourceforge - http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php

Free converter.  Download to your computer and this will convert your wav file to mp3 or vice versa.

Did you try the converter too Roy??
There are a LOT of negative comments on the page, though it does seem like exactly what I need :)

I have had that converter on my computer for years and never had a single problem with it.  You're probably right on a newer version of Audacity.  I have had that on my computer for awhile also.  I get a lot of studio demos done and they usually come to me in a wav format, so I have to convert the majority of them to mp3.  Works fine for me.
