Just found out that my great great grampa was a rebel rousing musician himself. AND my uncle is giving my grampa's guitar to me!
I haven't seen it yet, but i've been told the only identification is a yellow sticker inside the mouth. The only remaining legible letters left are 7 -a-sid--. The "-"s are letters too faded to read.
He wasn't a wealthy man so we're all assuming it was one of the cheep mail order ones that was purchased some time between 1925 &1935.
If anyone knows a good resource for identifying old generic guitars please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Bart

Bart,

Using an internet tool to solve words with missing letters, I found only these:

CAPSIDAL

DAYSIDES

FARSIDES

WAYSIDES

Here's a link to a wikipedia list of guitar makers:

When you get it, post a picture of it, and maybe that will help. Also you can google "Old Guitars" and click on images. when you place your cursor over the image it will tell you the make and model of the guitar in most cases.

I'd be saying, can't wait to hear it.  If I were you, I'd take it to a shop for some TLC right away, if it looks to be in decent enough shape.  Get a feel for how it is.  Man that would be classic to play on your great great grandpa's guitar!!!!

Ever since I ran across your post Bart I have had your guitar in the back of my mind and have searched trying to run across a vintage name to help but I can't find anything. HOWEVER I did come across a fellows site who restores old guitars and says he somewhat specializes in the identification of obscure brand names of vintage guitars.

Q: I'm trying to find some info about this unusual old guitar. Can you help?

A: I can certainly try! Playing vintage guitar detective is my favorite pastime and I'm pretty good at identifying and dating obscure guitars, if I do say so myself. You can post your questions on the
FORUM.

Here is the site:

http://www.junkguitars.com

Hope he may help (if you haven't already gotten a good lead).

(I know how it is. I bought an old vinatge "F" hole arch top at a flea market once...circa 1920-1930...all I ever knew was it was German...Never found out any more.  Drove me CRAZY!!!!!....lol. I can sympathize).

John

Just curious if you ever found out anything on the name of your guitar.

Here you go Big John. I asked him the same thing the other day over in Musical Instruments. Here's the link and his reply. :)

Probably the most prized piece of material I have EVER owned. NOT FOR SALE! :-)
