I wanted to take a try at something different than I've done before.  Much larger and more theatrical production in 3/4 time.  Only two more songs to go before I have my CD done!!!!  YAY!!!!

Enjoy and let me know what you think:

Gethsemane

©2010, Dave George

Verse 1

Off in the distance, just a stone’s throw away

His hands clasp together as he kneels down to pray.

Alone with his thoughts, his friends aren’t aware

Of his pain and his anguish or the burden he bears.

He pleads with his Father knowing what is to come

That he let this cup pass, but that God’s will be done.

On a dark lonely night, in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Verse 2

His mission completed, he’s done all that he can.

And it weighs on his heart, as it would any man.

Thirty pieces of silver is all it’s been worth

For the fear that he suffers on his last night on earth.

They can’t understand all pain he will face.

As the price for their sins he will bear in their place.

On a dark lonely night in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Bridge

All his life has been leading to this moment in time.

And the great sacrifice to redeem all mankind.

Though they kneel in his presence they can’t understand

Though divine he is still just a man.

Outro 1

The last chapter’s beginning, the final scene will unfold

In the greatest of stories that’s ever been told.

On a dark lonely night in the Garden of Gethsemane

Outro 2

As they lead him away to events pre-ordained

He knows that a world full of lives will be changed.

On a dark lonely night in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Nice treatment, Dragon, of an always powerful, moving story. Can't say it's my style of music, but regardless I was drawn in as I listened. My only comment, with all respect, regards the line 'Though divine he is still just a man.' I would opt for '... is also a man.'

Thanks Janke. Appreciate the insight. Yeah, I guess both say the same thing but there is a slight nuance difference I guess.

I can't say I'm addicted to this particular "style" as compared to my more traditional country flavor, but it was nice for a change and it did help me stretch my songwriting wings a bit.

Wow Dave what a pretty and very moving song! You did a really nice job on the whole entire production and a very nice job as well of putting together the video for it. I was totally engrossed in watching it as I was listening and reading along. But you always do a good job on everyting you write and record and I always thoroughly enjoy listening to them. Very nicely done DD. :)

Thanks so very much Sara. I figured I owed my Mom a more traditional style gospel song after she's tolerated some of my more "non-traditional" stuff. Gotta make points with Mama ya know...Christmas is coming.. ;)
