Well, kinda a rush job. Been unable to sing at all for a couple of months, flu virus that just won't go away. Had to get this done for a demo request so I squeeked it out.

Recorded all at home. Let me know what you think of the song. I had posted the words a while back, but like I said, I have been sick (and still not completely over it as you will hear) so I couldn't post the music and vocals right away.

Here's the link:

Thanks,

B.

The vocals are good. The music and tempo was lighthearted and smooth(easy to follow). The message is wonderful. Some of the phrasing left me expecting a rhymed ending on a couple of lines though, but I am that sort of writer;). I think it's Great!

Thanks MB, I appreciate your comment. The rhyming pattern was intentional. But, when I finished, it seemed to work. :)

I appeciate the compliments Bobby Joe. From the things I've heard on this forum you don't do too shabby yourself. :)

For a home recording...this is great...it gives me this Kenny Rogers "The Gambler" feel with the verses,  good job I like it.....

Thanks Crystal Lynn.... Hadn't really thought about "The Gambler" thing. It's a great compliment. Now if I only had the connections and voice that Kenny Rogers has, I'd be in business. :D

Thanks Gene.... I appreciate your listening to it and leaving the post.

Right now it's at 3 different publishers who each requested a copy of the demo after reading the words and seeing the lead sheets. Just keeping my fingers crossed (and toes, eyes, and anything else I can think of to cross) that someone will like it well enough to include it on a project. Nothing signed as of yet but there's been some "conversations", as one of them put it, about a contract.

Been down that road many times before before though and the billfold is still pretty thin. :) I think they are just holding a carrot in front of me while they pre-shop it around to see if there is anybody that might want to buy. CCM is a pretty tough market and the returns aren't extremely high compared to straight country.

Bradley,

Keep your chin up ole friend. It could just happen any day! The songs are very good. Some of the best I've heard. Sometimes we have to just wait. The cogs could already be turning in your favor. Keep faith in what you are able to create. It will happen!

Don

I don't know how I have missed not listenening to this song.  Man, this is absolutely great.  I really think this has a good shot at going somewhere and don't let em leave you hanging on the vine.  If they don't offer you a contract, keep on shopping it elsewhere as this song definitely has the potential to go somewhere.  Have you ever pitched anything to SME Publishing in Blanchard, Oklahoma.  They have a website but if you can't pull it up let me know and I'll send you the details and they only sign Christian/gospel music.  Again, absolutely love this song.

Don - Thanks for the pep talk. I get a little cynical about a lot of it sometimes. It seemed like when I was playing and writing before the doors were a lot easier to open. I gave it all up to take a job with a retirement and steady income and now, over 15 years later, I am trying to get into it again. It seems so much more difficult. But your words of praise and wisdom truly inspire.

Johnny - Thanks for listening and the reply. Your opinion is really appreciated.

Roy - I don't now what to say. I appreciate the compliment and the info. I just got back from training in St. Louis and was catching up on the latest email - news- and posts. I found the website and am going to make contact with SME Publishing. I had messages from 2 of the publishers who said that maybe we could talk again in a few months that the current market for the song isn't right, but that they really liked the song and were confident we could work things out then (I paraphrased). Translation: I got other songs for markets that will make me more money and we will be in touch when things slow down. Hadn't heard from the other 1 yet. I really appreciate the info about SME and your input about the song. It means a lot.

Bradley, another word to the wise.  Just because a publisher signs a song, really does not mean he can get a cut either.  It just means he likes your song well enough to pitch it. I take them for their word they will pitch it, otherwise, why go to the trouble to sign the song.  But, they often run into the same trouble you do.  Unknown writer. outside of Nashville, it is really a hard sell. It is really hard to get a Nashville publisher to sign your songs because they are simply flooded with writers who live in Nashville.  Much easier to walk in their door and make personal contact than trying to get noticed outside of Nashville.  I have songs that have been signed starting with May of 2004 and up until June of last year, but still no cut yet.  Just make sure you get a reversion clause to preclude them from sitting on the song until eternity.  I recommend no more than three years.  SME gave me one contract with a reversion of two years, he has had it about 10 months now.  I have songs signed by a couple of other publishers that fall into the same category as yours.  I am sending you a PM with their address.   They do accept unsolicited material also.  I don't know whether you would call mine Christian/country, Contemporary Christian or gospel.  I just write and let others decide what category they are. lol.
