Guys, this is a personal write and true story in honor and memory of my husbands Mother, my other-Mother and my children's grandmother who recently passed Oct. 17, 2009.

Tonight Another Angel Got Her Wings
Sara Bloodworth
© 2009

Verse I
When she wasn’t in the garden
Hoeing rows or picking peas
You could find her in the kitchen
Cooking something good to eat
But in the Spring and Summer
As that old sun headed West
She grabbed her fav’rite fishing pole
Hit the nearest lake and fished

Chorus
But tonight another angel got her wings
We all wish she could have lived forever
She’s finally found a place where she can rest
But in our hearts she'll be with us forever

Verse II
The day my oldest son was born
Her birthday three days away
She told him she looked forward to
His fiftieth birthday
She would have been a hundred
And she planned to reach that goal
Well the old girl almost made it
She was ninety three years old

Chorus
But tonight another angel got her wings
We all wish she could have lived forever
She’s finally found a place where she can rest
But in our hearts she’ll be with us forever

Verse III
Heavens so much richer now
Her smile will make it warm
But God already knew all this
That’s why he called her home
Thanksgiving Day is almost here
Then Christmas soon will reign
But neither of these holidays
Will ever be the same

Chorus
Cause tonight another angel got her wings
We all wish she could have lived forever
She’s finally found a place where she can rest
But in our hearts she’ll be with us forever

Sara, it is such a beautiful and special song :)... it took my breath away while reading it.  I know how dearly she was loved by you and your whole family.  There are no songs more special than the ones written from the love in your heart for your family.  I know that you must be very happy right now and I am very happy for you... it truly is a beautiful song.

This is great Sara.  All you need is inspiration and the muse wakes up.  Sad to have to have this kind of inspiration, but you did a beautiful job on it.  Well done.

Tough one to write guys, but only because I loved her so much and miss her dearly. Thank you for all your kind words, they're deeply appreciated. :)

It sounds like she was a great woman to know. I think you did her right by the song. I like it a lot. With Thanksgiving coming up I'm sure you have her on your mind and I'm also sure you'll have lots of stories to tell come Thursday. Great job.

Wow, that touched my heart deeply.  I loved the part about going fishing :-)

This Christmas, don't be sad because she isn't here, sounds like she was a fun lady so I'd be happy remembering all the fun things she has done over all other past Christmas times.  My family have tons of very funny and fond memories of Mom and Dad.  They are the best to bring a smile to the face.

Nice lyrics Sara!!

Randy, she was indeed a great woman..one of a kind in my book and she was also our Thanksgiving, so her not being here this year will be really hard. But I know she wouldn't want us to be sad, so we will make the best of it and begin a new tradtion in her memory. Thanks for the kudos on the write. :)

John, thanks much. All the words for this one came straight from my heart. I could see her doing each and everyone of these things as I wrote them down, it was almost as if she was sitting right here telling me what I need to say next.  Aren't co-writers wonderful? :) Thanks to you as well for all the kind words.

James, I am likewise touched by your comments. :)

We got a million of those funny and fond memories you mentioned, she enjoyed life and loved everybody no matter their faults, so there be will many stories to tell as the years go by.  And on the lyric...thank you.  :)

Nice write, Sara!

Thanks for sharing this one with us. I expect it will be hard for you and your family with this Thanksgiving and Christmas on the way.  Take comfort in knowing that she lived a very long life surrounded by a loving family. .... And that's what matters most in life.

Nice heartfelt lyrics there.

-Troy

A beautiful bittersweet song with a smile and an ache in the heart. One to be proud of.
