I'm a newbie on here but thought what they hey I'd try this out. This is by no means a pro demo. Just made on Garage Band while learning how to use it, and the mini-keyboard controlled by the mouse. Sure you all know how funstrating that can be. Production skills = low. You may need to read along to understand it. No band by the way, just me. Hope you like it though.

Sliver Gun
by Randy Drilingas ©2009

You don't teach a rabbit how to run.
Some people are born with a silver gun.
Like when you were born that night.
I remember then.
Again.
You don't teach a rabbit how to run.

He's gonna make it through just fine.
Let him run. Let him run. Let him run.
Everyone thinks that he'll be alright.
But he won't shine on.

He could make anything seem alright.
Come on shine on.
Like when we were young and we'd drink all night.
Come on shine on.

There were days when he made his mother proud.
He'd get right on stage and he'd sing his heart out loud.
He'd win games for teams and they'd carry him away.
"That boy is college bound" is what his coaches used to say.

"Listen to me. Soon they'll come a running just wait and see."

But he won't, shine, on. Everyone thinks that he'll be alright.
Won't shine - he won't shine on.
He won't, shine, on. Not gonna make it through this time.
Won't shine - he won't shine on.

And so came the day the play's final act would run.
All those dreams would seem to be close but never done.
You can't fight it now it's too big to understand.
In the end he'd cry and just want to hold a hand.

It's hard to believe. There's no use in running it's not meant to be.

And he won't, shine, on. Everyone thought that he'd be alright.
Won't shine - he won't shine on.
He won't, shine, on. Not gonna make it through this time.
Won't shine - he won't shine on.

Hey Randy,

I'm glad you jumped right in and submitted this song for our weekly Open Mic. I hope more new members will follow your lead and step up to the Mic!

Very creative lyric on this. I like the guitar work in your song. Especially in the intro and in the ending of your song, the guitar sings out at its best!

I enjoyed the listen!

-Troy

Hi Randy, it's really nice to see you stepping up to the plate in our open mic section! Good job!

Hey! I like the heck out of your music and production on this, it's very cool! Good job on the lyric as well, it's a little different from what I do in country, but nonetheless interesting. I hope you'll do the same thing next week and sing us another one in open mic!  Enjoyed the listen! :)

Well I was about to call it a night when I spotted this here.  I really enjoyed listening to this and if this is just you learning the Garage Band thingy (I've never used it) then things should only sound better from you in the future.

Good stuff, James.  Oh, and welcome.

Good stuff Randy. You've got a real groove going there, a really strong style coming through. Like this a lot.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I should state that this was the 5th song I made using Garage Band. Each song I realize there's more that I could add to it, drums, bass, etc... I think I'll post my first "drumless" effort for next weeks' open mic. I also should state that I was so excited to find this forum I overlooked the fact that it's slightly country music based. Although I have some country songs in my head I'm really not to schooled in the ways of country. Hope you can stomach some of my upcoming songs! :) Some are "heavier" than others as far as the music style. I haven't really figured out where exactly my music genre stands.

Again, thank you all for the warm welcome and kind words. I do really feel comfortable here.

I dug it Randy. Don't worry about our Country lean. While we have many country artists here, we also like to expand our horizons a bit. As you peruse the site you will see many genres presented.

Make yourself at home.:D

Fascinating instrument layering.  Interesting how it flows with the chord progression.  Very alternative.  Neat :D
