I posted the lyrics to this a while back.  I wrote this while on a visit to North Carolina.  Got back home and got the first cut done, so let me know what you think.  I still have some work to do as far as adding guitar and tweaking, but you'll get the idea.  I gotta say, I had a LOT of fun putting this one together.

By the way, if you can sit still and not move around or at least tap your toe when this is playing, you DEFINATELY need to get more fiber in your diet!!!  ;)

Open The Door (Let the Son Shine In)

© 2009 D. George

Do you ever feel like something’s missing

Like the joy you felt when you were very young?

Life has a way of taking over

And once the knots are tied they’re hard to get undone.

For every problem there’s a answer

But the answer isn’t always what you thought

When the road has beaten you down

It’s time to pick yourself off of the ground

And take a better road than the one you got.

Chorus:

Just open the door and let the Son shine in.

Wrap Jesus around you,

And be happy again.

Let go of the sorrow

And get ready for a brand new life to begin.

Life is so much more once you open the door

And let the Son shine in.

Do you ever feel you’ve lost direction?

And every day’s exactly like the last.

You got no sense of where you’re going.

And you’re standing still while life is going past.

You know the answer’s always been there

You could make the choice but still you hesitate.

What’s the reason not to choose

When you know you got nothing to lose?

And you’re losing precious time while you sit and wait.

That is a pretty upbeat song...I's hard to listen and not have it lift up your mood.

My fav part...

For every problem there’s a answer

But the answer isn’t always what you thought

When the road has beaten you down

It’s time to pick yourself off of the ground

And take a better road than the one you got.

But....What if I want to just sit in the dark and pout???

(just kidding)

Hey DD, whatever "tweaking" you have to do will be just another little swirl of icing on the cake... this song is excellent as it stands!  Great work on it all the way around... the music moves you, the vocals are bright and shiny, and the harmonies enhance it perfectly!

Thanks for the feedback..it's really appreciated.

Vicki...heck, I wrote this song for the folks that are pouting in the dark. It'll get 'em moving faster than Metamucil ;)

Dennis: Thanks for the nice words. I don't think I need to add much. I did re-do the lead vocal this morning cuz parts of it sounded weak to my ear. The only other thing is I want to add a little guitar part to it. Something snappy reminiscent of Doobie Bros. Not overpowering, but just a little something to add a bit of southern flavor. What was really kewl is that I had to do very little EQ'ing on this and virtually no compression except a tiny amount on the lead voice. Boy I like it when things come together like that!!!

SongWriter: Glad you liked it and glad it gave you a lift. That's what it's there for!!!

DD

Very good my friend.  It's really good to hear Christian music with an upbeat sound to it.  Makes you want to get up and shout, "Hallelujah" lol.  I liked it.

Thanks Roy. With any luck I'll be performing it at church in a couple of weeks. Hope those folks had an extra cup of coffee or three before services...they're gonna need the energy!!! ;)

What a great song! ;)   Clearly I get enough fibre, 'cause I bopped around from start to finish. :D

Fine lyric, and a joyful, first-class performance.
Good work. DD. ;)

Glad you enjoyed it Donna.  It's not often I do anything as upbeat as this, but it sure is fun when I do!!!  (y)

Dave, I am so happy that such a superb lyricist and musician and singer, such as yourself, has joined up with us! I don't know if you even realize how good you really are! But at the risk of getting a little sappy....I sure am glad you opend our door because you have certainly been a ray of sunshine for all of us here at TSF!!! :D

But moving right along....I sorry that I haven't commented on it before now, but I got throw a little off track when I saw it in RECENT as I knew I had commented on it already!!! However...duh... THAT was in the Lyrics Lounge, not here!!!!  But, you did an exceptional job on it and by golly you're right, I was toe-tapping right along with it the whole time I was listening to it! LOL Excellent job all the way around DD and just so you know.....I've become a biggg Dragon fan lately! ;)

Thanks so very much for the kind words Sara. Believe me, it's my good fortune to be a part of such a great group as this. There are LOTS of forums out there, but this is the only one I've found that is really here to support and help each other in our passion of writing songs and lyrics, and not just to feed our own ego's. It's clear to me that you folks make that difference by really encouraging everyone who walks through these doors and being willing to share your insights to help others.

This is truly a family and a REMARKABLE place!!

Dave, those are kind words indeed for all of us here at TSF! Much appreciated. :)

DD, it has been my experience since being here that a little encoragment in the beginning can sometimes lead to great things further down the road! I'm not by any stretch of the imagination about to say that I have done great things since being here, but I do know that without the encouragment that I have recieved from all the folks here at TSF that I would not be trying, as hard as I am trying, to improve upon my songwriting skills. I had pretty much gotten out of the game because of not having someone like you guys to share any of my songs with, except for my Danny that is! He alone knew how much songwriting means to me and he was determined not to let me someday go away without having given it at least one more shot. So even though it was my son who gave me the initial  'push' that helped me to be able to make that leap again that ultimately led me here... since being here the people in this forum, in their own kind and wondeful ways, have continued to push me, through their encouragment and kind nature of critique, to do bigger and better things.  So not only does it warm my heart to see you say.....This is truly a family and a REMARKABLE place!! DD....I have the good fortune of being able to say...I wholeheartedly and 100% agree with you!!!

Merry Christmas, Dragon Dave.   :)

Dave,
I had the good fortune to listen to this song earlier. I must have been distracted from posting an immediate comment. That sometimes happens when I'm at work. I tell them to leave me alone, but people keep calling me and stuff.

I'm diggin' the speed and I'm diggin' the message. It's a good one. Well done.

Thanks C2...appreciate the listen and feedback. It's okay, this got a bit confusing because it ended up getting posted in 2 different threads (my fault), so it's understandable how it would end up slipping by.

He He, two different threads...that explains why I listened and commented on how much I love this song but do not see my comments here on this thread.  :?  :D

It’s time to pick yourself off of the ground
And take a better road than the one you got.

I really like this.  Fast, lively, well put together... and that piano!!!

A minor, and non-musical point.  To call the new road a "better road"  implies (to me, anyway) other roads might be OK but His road is better.  I don't think that is what you want to say.  I would change the words "better road" to "different road" which rules out the idea of His road just being the best among many choices.

Another alternative would be to change that sentence to something like,

"And get on the road that will take you where you need to go!

Just some thoughts.  Nice job!
