A Kiss Like This

© Penny Campbell-Loewen

The first time I ever let a boy kiss me

 I remember I was just 15

Mmm hum and what a kiss

We were standing in line at the Farris Wheel ride

Ohhh the way it made me feel inside

It sent a tingle down to my toes

Cupid shot me hard with his arrow

Everything slowed down then it finally froze

For a moment in time

My knees started shaking and my heart stopped beating

All I could hear was the sound of his breathing

Did I mention his blue eyes

There ain’t nothing better than a kiss,

Than a kiss like this

Since then I've kissed some frogs and a couple toads

Searching for prince charming down every road

But he was never around

I started thinking that he didn’t exist

Till I found him last night and I felt that kiss

Now there’s no way I'm letting go

Cupid shot me hard with his arrow

Everything slowed down then it finally froze

For a moment in time

My knees started shaking and my heart stopped beating

All I could hear was the sound of his breathing

Did I mention his blue eyes

There ain’t nothing better than a kiss

Than a kiss like this

For a kiss like this

(Every girl is a searching)

For a kiss like this

(I know cuz I've been looking’)

For a kiss like this

(I think I finally found it)

There ain’t nothing better

There ain’t nothing better

There ain’t nothing better than a kiss like this

You betcha, Penny!!! And we're really glad to have you! This is quite a nice surprise, you make number 13 in our Valentines themed open mic and I'm jumping for joy right now!  Thanks to you we have managed to tie our record-setting Cowboy themed open mic week of last week and we never dreamed in a million years we would be able to do that!  So, thank you very, very much!

Sara

And you did it just in time.  We're gonna get to hear Sundown sing in her very first Open Mic.

Verrry professional. Like the timing changes on the 3rd and 6th lines. Good hook too. Whats not to like?

Well, I've telling everybody Penny's been there and done that and this song shows the many talents of Penny.  Great song Penny and your vocals are right up there.  I too loved the changes in the timing, it keeps the listener alert, and it's also a great story.  I'm so glad you re-joined us here and hope you stick around this time.  Maybe we'e all too goody-goody two shoes here at times and you don't see no flame wars here like on that "other" site, but that's OK.  We all need a pat on the back at times.

Penny, this is fantastic! Wow! Can you sing ever sing!  Great song too!  Your years in the business really shows and we sure are glad to see you in open mic, I hope you enjoy it and have as much fun with it as we always do! But, Whew, after seeing and hearing this I sure am glad there's no critiquing in open mic because you sure would have a field day with that old 'rust bucket' I have in here this week! LOL Very nice indeed, Penny! Oh and...

Happy Valentines to you!

Hey Penny, besides loving your vocals on this and the over all tune in general, I really love all that good bass playing on there!  I like me a good bass line in a song.

Who is that (if you can tell me) playing bass?  If your talking to him give him a thumbs up for me.  Actually all the music was cool.

Very good job, James.

Well lets see...It's written great...It's performed great... It's very professional, but besides all that stuff...It's a song that catches ones attention and makes a person want to keep listening and then hear it again and again, and to me thats what makes a HIT....Really awesome song Pistol Packin Penny:D

Penny: I don't think I ever met you here so I don't know anything about you but if that's you singing - then I'm taking my hat off! If that's your vocal track then I'd say: Faith Hill, move over! These are professional vocals of a person who has seen the stage before.

Again, I hope you don't mind my curiosity.:) Is it your song entirely or lyrics only? Also, it certainly sounds like a professionally recorded and produced piece. Do you have a band or is it a demo done by someone else? Either way, I agree with James, a very commendable job on the bass line, whoever did it knew what they were doing. Great listen!

A heartfelt thank you for your kind words... Now let me answer some of the questions...

Yes that is me on the vocal...
Yes I wrote both words and music
And its a homemade demo that a friend did for me in just an hour or so at his home studio. He played all the instruments himself... His name is Terry, but my goodness I barely knew him and I can't recall his last name... MY BAD!!!... This one is about a year old... Since its not a professional enough demo I wont be pitching it till I can get a real demo made of it and all though I think its a good song, I don't think it is good enough to spending money on making a pro demo of it...
I wrote the song for a target genre... The Taylor Swift and Miley young teeny bobber audience...

And thanks for noticing the on purpose slow down... When she is saying in the song everything slowed down then finally froze I wanted the beat and phrasing to accentuate that...

Again Thanks

Penny, fantastic vocals, and very well written with a great hook.  I have been reading your critique's and they are very good.  You obviously know the business.  I was comparing your song to what you have suggested as what a song should do, etc., and you have presented a very good example of what you were explaining to people.  I noticed that you have offered critique on my song, I just have'nt gotten around to answering all of the comments yet.  I will get over there soon and hammer you for what you have done to my ego.... just joking, I do appreciate you taking the time to explain to us what the pro's are looking for.  You are an asset to TSF.

WOW! Ain't no way I'd follow that voluntarily! Great job. My first thought, though, is to change the target audience. To me, it has more the feel of an older woman looking back. I'd love to hear Wynona, Faith..or you!...singing this on the radio.
