Great song Don. Did you record it yourself or do it at a studio?

Well folks,

The songs were done at Tabletop Productions in NC. The company has since gone out of business. They did great work. Thanks for your comments. The cd was done back in '03, with six songs.

Crystal,

That is great! I am so glad that you are getting to Nashville to see Phil. He is a fine person, along with his brother Mark. I worked with them in the mid-70s when their group was known as The Country Masters. I was an engineer at the local CBS station in Spartanburg, SC. The Country Masters won a talent contest and began doing a weekly country music show. Several big stars at the time came as special guests for the shows. Billy "Crash" Craddock and Ferlin Husky are two I remember along with Peggy Sue, another sister of Loretta Lynn I believe.

The group went on to change their name to Dixiana and moved to Nashville. They did the first music video I ever saw back in the early 80s.

Tell Phil I still have a microphone for his studio there. I will ship it to him.

My cd is on cdbaby.com

the title is Plain and Simple

and it is :-)

You just keep believing in yourself girl. You will catch that golden ring.

The best of luck to you. Keep us informed of your progress.

DON

Thanks Don!!  He seems like he's a nice guy.....I looked up thier album...and it wouldn't let me order it....and I looked up some info on the band...I did manage to hear one song...though the title has slipped my mind....it was on a country hits CD, with a mixture of other songs from the 80's I believe.  From what I understand the female singer left...and I am just confused as to why they didn't find someone else...because they had a great sound...almost like Alabama.

But thanks again Don...and I'll be sure to look up that Cd...I like things that are plain and simple.....not enough of that these days.....and I'll keep you updated!!  :)

Hey Crystal, I met Phil and Mark when in Nashville last month.  I have a friend who is good friends with Mark's ex-wife, who used to be the singer in Dixiana.  Small world, isn't it?  Are you going to meet them as a singer or songwriter?

Betty,

Do you remember Monica? She was once married to Mark. I remember her very well from the TV show. I always enjoyed her singing. She was a beautiful lady too.

Don, we gave Monica a ride to Nashville about 3 weeks ago to help her children move back home.  First time I'd ever met her, didn't know any of the history of the band or anything.  She's friends with another songwriter friend of mine, Liz McKinney.  Liz and I went to see Mark and he listened to a couple of our songs.

That is great! Hope she is doing well. I haven't seen her since about February of 1979. Wow...that is a long time. I remember after the tapings and when everyone left the studio, I would get out the "prop guitar" of another show we did, and play awhile.

At the time, the group was called "The Country Masters" and WSPA TV produced a weekly show "Carolina Country" with the Masters as the host band. It was lots of fun. I remember guests Billy "Crash" Craddock and Ferlin Husky. I am sure there were others. ot a chance also to meet the Oak Ridge Quartet...before they became the Oak Ridge Boys. Maybe I should have changed my name too :D

After I left WSPA TV in 1979, the group went on to do several "specials". I think one was at Biltmore House. They produced the first "Country Music Video" that I ever remember seeing. They were pioneers in this area of music. Later they became Dixiana. Named for a small town south of Columbia, SC . There is a sign labeled "Dixiana next right"

Got to meet Phil's mom and dad a few months back at one of Phil's music stores in the area. They are really a great bunch of good folks. I wanted to write back in the old days, but only began after reaching 60!!!!

If you see Monica again...tell her I said hello.

Betty,

If you get a chance pass this along to Monica and the others. The photo was taken in the mid-late 70s when "Hee Haw" and "Bob Newhart" were top shows for CBS.

The closest I ever got to Nashville and Hollywood :D

I think it was because of the clothes!!!!!

That gave you a good laugh!!!:D

The one on my right is Kathy Baker from Hee-Haw. She didn't sing but was in some of the Cornfield County skits. At the end of each show, she would say "That's all".

Marcia Wallace is the other lady. She is from the Bob Newhart Show. You can still see her occasionally on TV Land.

I always said " I wish I had been born rich instead of so good lookin".

I will lie about other things too!!!

see how good I am at naming stars, LOL! I thought it was Carol Burnett, but now that you tell me Marcia Wallace, I remember her at the reception desk on Newhart. Used to love Hee-Haw too!

TVLand is my favorite channel.

Don,

This is a great song!  Guitar sounds great, I can almost hear it as a Bluegrass style if it had a lil different beat, although I'm not suggesting any changes.  Just reminds me of a Bluegrass band from our church when I was growing up.  Or, could work as a great mens quartet song also!:)

Kim
