Jason sent me these great lyrics the other day and asked if I'd be interested in coming up with some music for it if I had time.  Well as soon as I read the lyrics this type of a melody popped in my head.  Even though I should have been working on my own stuff, I couldn't get this out of my head so I fired up the recording unit and put this down.

There are still a few rough spots (bass timing and I want to change the drums) but I think it works pretty good as a demo for now.

I don't think it is exactly what Jason had in mind for the tune but it is what I heard in my head and I've never done a Gospel song before so I thought I would take creative power:D and try it this way.  Thats the danger in sending me off in my own direction Jason;):D

Anyway, I think Jason's lyrics are great (I only changed one or two words for phrasing).

Lord Show Me The Way    (c) 2008 Jason Tebo (lyrics) / James Ryce (Music)

I live a rough life,
I have my share of sins.
I greet the devil,
Everytime that he wants in.

And today the devil's back,
He's knocking at my door.
But I don't want to
let him in, anymore.

Open my eyes,
And show me the way,
Take my hand,
And teach me how to pray.
I'll do my best, Oh Lord
To live in your name.
If you'll just
Show me the way.

I walk around this town,
And I feel all alone.
Searching for a place
A man like me can call a home.

And as I walk by a church,
I hear the preacher say,
"If you let the lord in,
He can show you the way."

Open my eyes,
And show me the way,
Take my hand,
And teach me how to pray.
I'll do my best,
To live in your name.
If you'll just
Show me the way.

When my time comes,
Please don't shed a tear,
Cause I know where I'm goin
Thanks to what I learned down here.

He opened my eyes,
And showed me the way,
He took my hand, My Lord
And taught me how to pray.
And I do my best,
To live in his name.
All because he
Showed me the way.

James this is great.  It's one of those toe-tappers that you could listen to all day.

Very nice job.

This is really, really good.  Southern gospel at its best.  Great job on this James and I agree, Jason gave you some great lyrics.  Congratulations on a job well done to both of you.

Mike, thanks so much, your comments (as all folks do) mean a lot so thanks.  I'm going to try and clean up the bass in a few spots and do some better drum loops.  Once I get that done, I'll send you the mp3 so you can post it proper for Jason and myself.  I hope to get to it either tonight or in the next couple days.

Roy, I was hoping that you would like this one.  Thanks for the great comments.

Tricia, I'm glad that you liked it.

First time I ever did this type of music and I can honestly say, it may be one of the most fun songs I have ever worked on.  I had a blast working on the harmonies.  Good thing the key wasn't any lower as I think the lowest note I could actually do and still have sound come out of my mouth is in this song:)

Thanks all, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

James.

James I understand why you needed to get the tracks down on this one. Its catchy! I can't get it out of my head. You and Jason did an amazing job with this. Enjoyed it very much. Great Gospel guys.

Thank you all for your great comments. James did an awsome job on this! Once again, he did the hard part and knocked it out of the ball park!
