Southern Sounds
Give me some o' that southern rock
mix it with some rythym and blues
hey y'all now don't forget
some country attitude
anything from gimme three steps
to them Haggard song's of truth
nothing like them old sweet songs
to get you in the mood
Play me a song bout Curtis Lowe
with a green grass high tides view
don't forget bout the CDB
that stuff kicks like a mule
from Molly Hatchett to the Van Zandts
and don't forget that Allman crew
get me dancing to some Blackfoot
yeah, you know you love em too
Chorus
So play me some of them southern sounds
play some country atti i tu u ude
yeah turn it up and crank it loud
n just fall into the groove
Ain't nothing like them ol' southern sounds
to drive away your blue ooh ooh's
so play me some o' them southern sounds
with that country attitude

Barry coming together you got all my favorites in there... Maybe you can find a spot for "Ozark Moutain Daredevils" in there..."If you want to get to heaven" The Blackfoot reference made me think of "Train Train" and the harmonica part... then I thought of "Ozark Mountain Daredevils"

I love that harmonica part in Train Train, but my fav by them would have to be Highway Song.

Still playing with it... if you have more lyrics keep posting. Let me ask you a question? Do we want to take the rout of being inclusive of all southern influnce... say go back to "Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys" Hank Williams Sr, Bill Haley up to the the late 70's or so? Just brain storming. When Rick and I wrote "If we don't blow it" I drew some material for the song from actual historical events. Up to you let me know. Sometimes this approach takes on a life of its own and some surpising things happen.

I hadn't thought about it that way Rob, I think I would rather stick to things that people our age could relate to from their youth, late 60's and primarly the 70's. To me that was some of the best music ever.

I was also thinking that what I wrote for a possible bridge may work better for a first verse, maybe not those exact lines but something simiar.

Yep, there are probably some who would argue the point, and maybe it's just because I have so many memories of youth tied to some of that music, what ever the reason for the feeling, it;s exactly how I feel. It's just good time music to me.

I'm going to lay down a sample track and see if this the direction we want to go in.. I'll need to reboot and free up memory so I'll be back on later.

Rob, what do you think of?............
I was at the local tavern
for a burger and a brew
when a girl at the jukebox said
do ya want to hear some tunes
I said
play me some of them southern sounds
play some country atti i tu u ude
yeah turn it up and crank it loud
n just fall into the groove
Ain't nothing like them ol' southern sounds
to drive away your blue ooh ooh's
so play me some o' them southern sounds
with a country attitude
Give me some o' that southern rock
mixed with some rythym and blues
hey girl now don't forget
some country attitude
anything from gimme three steps
to them Haggard song's of truth
nothing like them old sweet songs
to get you in the mood
Play me a song bout Curtis Lowe
with a green grass high tides view
don't forget bout the CDB
that stuff kicks just like a mule
from Molly Hatchett to the Van Zandts
and don't forget that Allman crew
we'll be dancing to some ol' Blackfoot
yeah, you know you love em too
So play me some of them southern sounds
play some country atti i tu u ude
yeah turn it up and crank it loud
n just fall into the groove
Ain't nothing like them ol' southern sounds
to drive away your blue ooh ooh's
so play me some o' them southern sounds
with a country attitude

That looks like its shaping up Barry... I like the change at the beginning. BTW here is a rough sample on on a music direction. Let me know if it sounds Southern Rock enough. This is just a scratch track so it will have to be redone when we complete writing the lyrics and I complete the chord arrangement.
Here it is: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6696026

I forgot to ask... you any good at the finger whistle? I never could get that down. This song can't be complete with out one. If you can't I look for a wave file.

I never could do that finger whistling either. Should be able to find a wav file for it. Where would it go? How long should it be, I'll look for it too.
