"Finding Jesus"

Lyrics: Cal Francis DiFalco

Music: John Lawrence Schick

Vocals:  John H. Clark

http://schicksville.com/Music/Finding%20Jesus.mp3

It wasn't easy. finding Jesus
In the depths of my despair
While I was waiting, contemplating
I looked up and found him there

I shunned religion
I had no vision
And I worshipped other kings
Yeah I was loyal, to all my spoils
And I found the bad in everything

But halleluiah, I’m closer to ya
I’ve found freedom in a prayer
To all winners and Friday sinners
There’s salvation in the air

You know the Bible, found me liable
For all the wicked things I'd done
With this collision
Came a decision
To change the person I'd become

At times pretension, breeds contention
And frees us from the prison locks
But I see no miracle
In this cereal
There is no prize inside the box

But halleluiah, I’m closer to ya
I’ve found freedom in a prayer
To all winners and Friday sinners
There’s salvation in the air

When I’m forgiven
For all this livin
Will I finally get the nod
Or is this topic
Best for prophets
Or perhaps, simply for God

But halleluiah, I’m closer to ya
I’ve found freedom in a prayer
To all winners and Friday sinners
There’s salvation in the air
[size=]

Well John, you already know this song is just absolutely beautiful.  Everything is top notch, lyrics, music, vocal and production.  Tell me how you pulled this off.  I assume that is you playing the piano and that you did the composing.  Who did the production and vocals.  Was this done at a demo studio because it certainly sounds like it.  And man, those vocals, just brings this thing home.  I give this one five stars and if there were more, you could have them also.  Great job.

Wonderful production! Enjoyed the listen thoroughly! Lush Queen-like harmonies which I am a huge fan of and very convincing Elton John style piano! Loved it! Thanks for sharing!

if I were to nitpick though... but on a second thought I won't :) Great job! Btw, Sir Elton is coming to Winnipeg in September and I've got tickets!

Wow, what a build-up Roy. So glad you enjoyed this song.

As far as the production goes; it's our basic procedure (with a twist).

Cal sends me the lyrics. I compose the music and make a vocal reference for a singer. Then we send it out to a singer or Cal's wife Teresa will sing it as in "Bluer Than Blue" (I posted that song in the Jazz genre yesterday).

Usually we have a singer in mind for our songs, but this time John Clark came to us after hearing the vocal reference on a collab site.

He asks us if we could change a couple lyrical lines that didn't fit his philosophical/religious criterion. Cal then re-wrote the lyrics - and we sent it back to John Clark. He sang it and added all the great harmony back-up. He also added that high "God" note. He said it was quite a task getting up to that high note.

I'm not sure if he used a harmonizer or another program - or just recorded one track at a time the old way, but we were very pleased and surprised with the added harmony.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Best, John

Thanks Candlelight! Never hold back from nitpicking. I believe there's always room for improvement. However, we think of most our song productions as demos. So when we reach a certain standard, we call it quits and move on to the next song.

Best, John
