This was just a rough recording my family and I made a few years back. We used to do a monthly prayer and sing-a-long at the Cottonwood, Idaho penitentiary. This song was one of their favorites. You just don't know what it's like to have 100 bad guys singing along with you. You have to be strong not to cry for them openly...

Only You Can Pardon Me
Unpublished Work, Copyright © R. Dobbins

Verse 1:
Oh my Lord, I look below
On the way to my trying
With my heart hanging low
Here I stand alone and crying

Chorus:
Only You hear my petition
Only You hear my appeal
Only you know my conviction
Only You can pardon me

Verse 2:
Oh my Lord, my empty soul
Comes to you merely willing
And I pray, my earthly toll
Finds me with You at my fulfilling

[To Chorus]

Oh my Lord, my crime is clear
As the blood upon my hands will show You
When I go please hold me dear
For my heart has never known You

[To Chorus]

BOB!  I thought I was all day crying today!!! Then this song got me started all over again.  Beautiful song and story you posted, thank you.  Is this you singing? Sounds wonderful!  If I had four thumbs they'd all be up.

The beautiful thing that this song reminds us of is this. Our judge jury and counselor are all the same one. Love the melody, and Bob........ don't ever claim to be among the nonsingers. Your great at it.

Great song Bob - and great voice too.  You've been holding back on us as well.

Thanks, Red, I don't have much confidence in my voice... But I'll sing if I have to and I really love singing with my family. I usually don't sing the lead, I leave that up to my daughter... Thanks for the support and kind words!

Not too shabby pappy!  Stop beating yourself up about your voice and just go for it.  The more you do it, the better you get.  Crank up the Victrola and practice your Elvis leg twitches in front of the mirror.  If you aren't able to do that then practice the lip snarl.  The ladies will all be swooning in no time. :D

Seriously, why don't you think you can sing?  I can't sing, but I sing it anyway, bad notes and all.  Just do it.  Don't think about it, just do it.

I have seen people with less faculties than I have that put me to shame.  I figure if they can do it with what little they have to work with, then what am I complaining about?

OK, the rah-rah session is over!  Whew, that felt good....I need to go sing something now.

Well, when you have my daughter to compare yourself to, you tend to lose hope... :) Thanks for the support and kind words! Sorry, no Elvis for me, but Aarika was Elvis in "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" :)
