That's fantastic! Would love to hear somebody take up one of my songs that way - hope it makes you feel good! :)

It does---big time. Gabe is a budding giant as composer, even interested in lyric writing now. He's a human sponge for knowledge and a sweet, humble young man of 24. If I did nothing in my 3 years in Philadelphia---ending on Tuesday---but help bring him out it would have been worth it...

Wow, Joel! Those dudes can really jam! Love the bass solo. You taught ‘em well!

Thanks for sharing.

Charles

These talented younguns did make a few mistakes: a wrong note on the coda; and they didn't harmonize the intro w/the bass---a solo bass figure is not the way it was written, and leaves the listener in the lurch as to what the harmony is. And there were backgrounds needed for the bass solo---it's a lot to ask a cat, especially that young, to carry the whole thing, harmony; time; form w/o at least a few hits w/guide tones from the horns---in a chordless group.

That said, their energy & enthusiasm ARE contagious---and I AM proud of Gabe, who studied with me for 3 years and I predict will be a force as composer. Working with him (and meeting so many other mostly young musicians who are now good friends) made my stay in Philadelphia---a city I don't love---more than worthwhile...
