Spoken)
I saw a post the other day asking
Who influenced your song writing?
I thought for a brief second about all the greats I’d come to know over the course of my lifetime then quickly realized. It was...

Love, loss, alcohol and pain
Words left and regret
A few women’s names
Highlights and bar life
Goodbyes and hellos
My influence life
I’m writing my show

The script may not be
All sunshine and roses
There’s not one single person
Alive who I knows is

I’ll give credit I guess
To fate and my mind
One’s shown me hell
One’s grand design

Love, loss, alcohol and pain
Words left and regret
A few women’s names
Highlights and bar life
Goodbyes and hellos
My influence life
I’m writing my show

I write in a language
Universally known
Restricted at youth
But learned as you grow

They can chisel in truth
These words on my stone....
Love, loss and deeper thoughts
Are all that he’d known

Love, loss, alcohol and pain
Words left and regret
A few women’s names
Highlights and bar life
Goodbyes and hellos
My influence life
I’m writing my show

My influence.... life
I’m simply writing what I know

No kidding- this is so true ( at least in my life!)
Great job putting this into words!

I saw a post the other day asking
^^^^ consider "someone asked me the other day"

Love, loss, alcohol and pain
^^^^ great hook, but consider "liquor"

Words left and regret
^^^^ not too keen on "left"

Highlights and bar life
^^^^ highlights? Maybe fistfights or strobelights

My influence life
^^^^ I think the in is necessary. Or is.

I’m writing my show
^^^^ consider "now I'm writing my show"

Who I know is
^^^^ gramatically awkward

Good ending. Solid concept. I really like the hook.

Thanks Derrick. Taylor, I do like a few of suggestions and may look to make some changes. My favorite line of the song is the grammatically awkward. I’m not sure there is another way to say the same thing. Appreciate you looking and for the suggestions.

I like this.
And it's a really great response to the stock question: "Who are your influences?"

Sort of a pet peeve of mine. Because the influences aren't always obvious. I'm influenced by everything. Life, as you so succinctly put it.

And I tend to listen to music that I could never hope to play or sing. In fact, that's WHY I listen to it.
