I wrote this song when my daughter (age 26) was a teenager and was in a really dark place battling depression and suicidal thoughts. It's everything I wanted to say to her and she says through this song and all our talks, I helped give her the strength to live. I feel incredibly thankful to have her with me today. She still listens to the song.

If I Could © Todd Davidson 2021
Words and Music by Todd Davidson

V1
If I could just reach you
And help you to understand
That there's more to this life
Than the pain
And if I could just hold you
Like the child you are to me
I would help you to feel the love
To get you by
And if I could just convince you
That you help make the world shine
That my life would fall apart
Without you
And if I could just show you
That the answer lies within
Would you open up your mind
And let me in

Chorus
All I want is peace for you
Take my hand
I'll help you through this fight
All your tears
All your fears
Close your eyes
I'll help you through the night

V2
If I could just see you
Smile when you look in the mirror
I would know that you have found
Some peace of mind
And if I could just hear you
Say everything's alright
Then maybe I could breathe
A little while
And if I could just feel you
In a Long and warm embrace
Maybe then I could believe
You're not too far
And if I could just take you
To that Place you want to be
Would you reach out your hand
And come with me

Chorus

Wow, thank you for sharing this. I am sitting here typing and crying.

I too have a teenager who struggles with depression. I have lived through the threats of suicide and it is an undescribable harrowing feeling.

One time, my son and I were in the car together, the song 'Simple Man' came on the radio. I said to my son, "I wish I wrote this song for you". He lit up a bit that day.

You song is so beautiful. It is so honest and heartfelt. I am so happy your daughter loved it. Maybe it is time I actually write a song to my son. Thank you for being an inspiration :)

Andrea, my heart goes out to you. It is a scary time as a parent. I'm glad you and your son find moments of hope. Music is a powerful way to speak to someone. Having heard some of your songs, I've no doubt you could write a meaningful song to your son. Good luck and I would love to hear it if it comes together. I don't know if you saw my post of the song to my other daughter, Get On By, but you may like that as well. Thanks again.

Thank you for your supporting words. I haven't listened to "Get On by" yet. I did notice it, but this one called to me right away. I will absolutely listen to that one too!

This is beautiful. And because it is so personal you probably shouldn't change it in any way.
