I used Katy because it near-rhymes with crazy. I was stuck on verse two, so I decided to shelve it. Overnight I dreamt verse two and chorus two... of Katy, who was a blue-eyed blonde I went through school with! Strange... CMA

Crazy ‘Bout You, Katy

Verse 1:
Met you at the beach, sand in your hair
I knew you from school, do you remember
We played all day in the surf, the sunny air
The boardwalk thrills —a laughing bender
Did love arrive by evening’s light
Did we think it’d stay forever
And if not, I prayed it might

Chorus 1:
Oh, I’m crazy ‘bout you, Katy
My heart flutters, my mind’s spacey
Your blue blue eyes, your true blonde hair
The way you say, I just don’t care
Your carefree shrug, your flippant air
Your lips say no, your smile says maybe
Wow, I’m crazy ‘bout you, Katy
I’m crazy, crazy ‘bout you, Katy

Bridge:
Years roll away, but I still relive that day
The way you look at me, can we still be
Is there a chance in the cards for romance
Or will our dream end in a fading glance

Chorus 1:
Oh, still crazy ‘bout you, Katy
My heart flutters, my mind’s spacey
Your blue blue eyes, your true blonde hair
The way you say, I just don’t care
Your carefree shrug, your flippant air
Your lips say no, your smile says maybe
Wow, I’m crazy ‘bout you, Katy
Still crazy, crazy ‘bout you, Katy

Verse 2:
Took a class and there you are in spades
I smile, you smile back, do you remember
And we come together on the second day
Like we were then —but much more tender
As you are the queen of my heart
Can we stay this way forever
Let us pray we never part

Chorus 2:
Oh, I’m crazy ‘bout you, Katy
My heart flutters, my mind’s spacey
Your blue blue eyes, your sheer blonde hair
The way you say, I dearly care
Your loving glance, your gentle air
Your lips say yes, your smile says love me
Wow, I’m crazy ‘bout you, Katy
I’m crazy, crazy ‘bout you, Katy

Post chorus:
Crazy ‘bout you
Still crazy ‘bout you, Katy
Crazy ‘bout you
Crazy ‘bout you, Katy, Katy, oh Katy

First off, I always think its great when a song uses someone's name in the title, and "Crazy 'Bout You Katy" does really roll off the tongue perfectly.

Your structure is really unique, I don't know if I've ever seen verse/chorus/bridge/chorus before. Obviously there's more established structures, but as someone who uses unconventional structures myself, I say if it feels right, go for it :)

If I had one thing to say, on chorus 2, you mention her "sheer blonde hair". I don't know if "sheer" is the best word to use, it doesn't really tell us anything about her hair. I would see nothing wrong with reusing "true blonde hair" again, since you also reused "blue blue eyes", or you could still come up with something else. I think that would make it flow better.

The rest of the lyrics are great though. I cam definitely see this as a pop-country song.

Hey, BF64, welcome aboard! I’ve been a little busy writing lyrics for composers, not paying too much attention to TSF.

Thanks for checking out my lyric. I’m pleased you like it. The structure with the bridge between the verse is a first for me; but I needed to use the bridge to show the gap in time. Not conventional but... so what.

So you think I should change one word. I had ‘true’ at first but ‘sheer’ works with ‘dearly’ on the next line. If you witnessed the dream I had about Katy you’d understand why I used ‘sheer’. It has to do with the purity of the subject in the dream as well as her beautiful hair. If the singer or composer doesn’t like it, I can easily change it. I love collaboration. Cheers!

Charles

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of songwriters and getting feedback in my lyrics here. I really admire your lyrics, I've read several of them and they sound really polished and professional. I've always wanted to be a lyricist myself.

And okay, so I do get why you wanted to use "sheer" now. It has personal meaning for you. In that case, it'll be fine :)
