Daddy why’d you hand me down what’s in your veins
I’ve changed my name and my address but can’t escape
What you gave me’s out of sight, but never out of mind
Your little girls been crawling for some time
This storm that lies ahead is a strong one
It’s a battle for my very soul
My life’s been on the rocks and the end is getting close
I’m just hoping I have the strength to let it go
One less thorn on this rose would do me good
One less thorn on the rose from my childhood
Every light casts a shadow
Im in the darkness I never chose
I’m praying for one less thorn upon this rose
I guess I got it honest I won’t lie
It was on both of my granddaddy’s sides
I’ve seen both of our struggles
Now I’m living out the fight
I love you but I’m not ready to reunite
This storm that lies ahead is a strong one
It’s a battle for my very soul
My life’s been on the rocks and the end is getting close
I’m just hoping I have the strength to finally let it go
One less thorn on this rose would do me good
One less thorn on the rose from my childhood
Every light casts a shadow
I’m in the darkness I never chose
I’m praying for one less thorn upon this rose
I came here today for advice
But I’ll leave your graveside never knowing why
Silence speaks the loudest when you walk a lonely road
You left me with a thorn but I’ll always be your rose
One less thorn on this rose would do me good
One less thorn on the rose from my childhood
Every light casts a shadow
Im in darkness I never chose
I’m praying for one less thorn upon this rose
I’m praying for one less thorn upon this rose

Mike I love these lines:
One less thorn on this rose would do me good
One less thorn on the rose from my childhood
very, very nice!
Is the lady's "thorn" here alcohol?
Whatever it is, I feel like it should be a little clearer.
That's likely a personal preference, and some may prefer it to be open to interpretation, but I feel like I should know by the end of the song.

Yes her thorn is alcohol. I may need to clear that up. Almost as soon as I was done I had some other ideas as well. That may be necessary, guess I’ll see what others say as well. Thank you

John, I’m strictly a lyricist.
