When I get Where You Are

https://youtu.be/akw8UQuKv8U

You would lie there beside me
On borrowed time
Silently fighting
Your illness inside

I'll never forget
our kiss at dawn
When you whispered softly
And you where gone

(Chorus)

It's been five years
Do I look the same
I stopped for a visit
With a surprise today

I brought the children's pictures
See how they've grown
I placed them by "In Loving Memory"
Engraved on your headstone

(Chorus)

Bridge:
Here's some letters
Written by the kids
I see you in them
In ways that you did

------------------Chorus-----------------
Hopeless from the beginning
And short on time
Living in the minutes
Into the nights

I know there'll come a day
In a time not to far
We'll be together
When I get where you are

--------after third pass---------
We'll be hand in hand
Younger than before
We'll dance with our savior
forever more

I know there'll come a day
In a time not to far
We'll be together
When I get where you are

Have you tried this with some minor chords thrown in, and maybe slowed down a touch?

It's such a sad, intimate lyric. I feel like it needs sad music to go with it. Maybe the bridge could be in major chords for contrast, and the emotion is a bit happier there.

Make up your own mind, and trust your instincts, but if you haven't considered doing it that way it might be worth an experiment.

You are correct. I'm normally one to pic up the emotions with the minors. For some reason, I had the melody in my head. I'll fix it in the morning.

Thanks again

That feels like a much better fit to the lyric :)
Well done!

Wow John, this gave me the chills. These words are sad, yet beautiful. One of my favorite songs of yours:)

This is my favorite part:

"I know there'll come a day
In a time not to far
We'll be together
When I get where you are" - fantastic!

This is my second favorite:

"I'll never forget
our kiss at dawn
When you whispered softly
And you where gone" - the first chills came here
