JB Nathan alerted me to Proverb 31 when he told me about a song he was looking at writing that related to it. Hope I didn’t steal his thunder. CMA
Son Of My Vows
A1:
Oh, son of my heart, son of my vows
Yield not to women who sap your strength
Or give-in to sin, forget God’s laws
Keep not the poor in want at length
Or twist the judgement of those oppressed
Oh, son of my vows please do your best
A2:
On, son of my heart, son of my vows
Speak for the mute so they may be saved
From them who abase, despise God’s laws
Marry a woman who God’s raised
She’s beyond all wealth, no need of waste
Oh, son of my vows don’t wed in haste
A3:
Oh, son of my heart, son of my vows
She’ll do you good her entire life
She’s like ships that bring food from afar
To feed her kin, a worthy wife
She buys a field and plants fruit trees
Oh, son of my vows, she’ll bring you ease
A4:
Oh, son of my heart, son of my vows
She girds her loins and her arms with might
She assures the things she buys are good
Her candles don’t go out at night
She extends out her hands to the poor
Oh, son of my vows, she’s more than pure
A5:
Oh, son of my heart, son of my vows
She dons the garb of esteem and praise
She speaks with wisdom; her voice is faith
She’ll bring forth joy for all your days
She finds new ways to improve her house
Oh, son of my vows make her your spouse
Coda:
Son of my heart, son of my vows
Keep the promise to God you made
Do work for Him, do what’s allowed
So He may guide you in His ways
Hold this path, make a good wife proud
Son of my heart, son of my vows

I like this song Charles, It sounds like it'd be a great song to sing with a choir, also with a hymn melody. It sound better than mine actually because I watered it down a bit to sound more relatable. Last edited on Sun Jul 12th, 2020 07:32 pm by NathanJB

It’s really good. Meditative. Not going to make it on the Gaithersburg homecoming video in 2040 but a nice job writing and very meaningful
I’m sitting here debating whether to post this. Hope you don’t take it the wrong way

Thanks for your review and positive comment...I think. Will the Gaithersburg Homecoming be around in 2040? Will I be around in 2040? I doubt either. Glad you posted it...

Thanks, Jim... I kinda felt bad about posting it knowing it was you idea to start with. But it was such a challenge to write that I couldn’t resist. The coda wasn’t part of the proverb, but I wanted to end by bring back the focus to our Lord. Glad you like it.
