oops I was trying to say that I wrote a song called Sing in my Dreams Tonight and my main problem is that I need a producer who can help me record this song. if I record it myself it might not sound as good and my song would go to waste. How does an amateur musician/songwriter go about finding a good producer? I dreamt with this song about 2 months aago in early january 2020, I know I have a good song and don't want it to go too waste. Thanks Gabriel

I forgot to mention that I'm male in Washington state near Tacoma, but could travel. I'm a little older and I'm sure the big labels are looking for young people. I wouldn't mind working with older musicians or producers. I remember a big hit song called The Macarena and those guys were older, so age is not stopping me on my quest for a music career. should I record a demo of this song first? Thanks Gabriel

Hi Gabriel!

TSF members are predominantly other songwriters.
You may not engage directly with Producers here, though some members may have had experience with them.

I think you will need to record some kind of demo or work tape as otherwise a Producer (nor anyone else) won't have any idea of what you are looking for.

If what you want is a high quality recording suitable for sale or airplay, there are plenty of commercial services that can do that for you - provide you have the money to spend. They will still need that demo to understand what you are after, although there are also those that will take a lyric and write the music for you as well.

If what you want is someone to take on your song and do that work for you and turn an idea into a solid track then market it for you, all I can say is good luck!
It's a tough market out there, with a lot of other songwriters trying to do the same thing. Artists and record companies no longer accept unsolicited songs and it seems like a lot of networking is required just to get to a position where someone might listen to your work.
Nevertheless, some do make it.

If you perform yourself, that can be a big help building an audience and fan base for your music.

Best of luck!

Hi Gabriel, nice to have you on board! As RDM said it's tough to find a producer who would take on a raw project without having some kind of demo for them to work from. You said that you would try to record it yourself so I'm gong to assume that you are a musician as well as a songwriter? If you can play an instrument then perhaps you might consider finding someone to collaborate with who can help you work up a decent demo. There are several folks on this and several other forums out there who are always looking new projects to work on.

Just a thought that might help you get started.

Yes, I'm going to try and record a demo myself, but I might need to hire a singer. I didn't understand the role of the producer before. Thanks Gabriel
