I'm starting with this song because it is the first song I wrote back in 1986. I did all of my writing on my mother's piano back then and the song was originally much slower. Around 2002 I got a Yamaha QY-100 sequencer and that's when I rewrote it to this. The entire backing track was from the QY-100 and that was recorded onto 2 tracks on a Zoom PS04. I then used the 2 extra tracks to record the guitar and my vocals. Hopefully, I got everything in here right. Enjoy.

Love is in the Air

There was love in the air
There was peace everywhere
There was no war about
Only friends talking about

The world here today
Must stop our bitter ways
Can't you see what is right
What could be if we didn't fight

Love is in the air
Peace is everywhere

See what is right
See what is wrong
Let's not be afraid
But bring peace here today

Love is in the air
Peace is everywhere
Come and join our crowd
Bring peace and be proud

War is not the way
Let peace lead our way
So hear what I say
Let peace be here to stay

Love is in the air
Peace is everywhere

I like the build up at the start, that works well.
Some tasty guitar licks there!

Got an 80s feel to it for mine.

I found the vocals a bit soft in the mix and a little unclear. Without the lyrics posted, I would have had trouble understanding the words

I like the synths too, with that arpeggiation.

I think the melody is a little weaker at:
Love is in the air
Peace is everywhere

perhaps a bit more variation there?

It feels stronger musically than lyrically. The structure and rhyming etc is sound, but nothing jumped out at me lyrically.

Since I do not like my voice, I've had a habit of burying it in the mix. I have gotten a little better with accepting my voice for what it is (I always say I'm somewhere between Bob Dylan and Tom Petty vocally) and try not to bury my vocals as much.

It was the first song I wrote so I had a lot of growing to do. When I originally wrote it the chorus and verse were sung exactly the same. My mother said it was too repetitive so I just moved my hand on the piano for the chorus, but still played it the same way. 6

When I did the rewrite the chord structure stayed the same and it's still was sung the same way. It was more of a change to the background part. Now that I have gotten back to piano again, I keep saying I'm going to rerecord this song the way I originally wrote it. I think the lyrics fit the slower piano tune it originally was.

I was definitely going for an 80's sound when I rewrote the song so I'm glad you noticed that. I didn't have an actual arpeggiator at the time, I had to create the arpeggiation in a pattern by hand, but I think it gave me that Duran Duran type effect I was going for.

Thanks for listening and the advice.

I understand completely about vocals. I don't like my own either, mine are certainly not good enough for any "final" product. I find it's best to think of my recordings as work tapes. If someone else was to record one of my songs, they need to clearly hear how the vocals should sound. And if I think of it as other than a final version, I can put up with how my voice sounds.

I consider myself more like Desmond Child. I think I write some very good songs, but someone else should be doing them. I still get occasionally get ideas, but rarely do the stem to full songs. Mostly I'm putting out older material I recorded or occasionally I record one of my older songs for the heck of it. I kind of reached that point where I know it just will never happen, but I don't want my old songs never to be heard, so I'm posting them just to be heard.

I love the arpy keyboard part. I think is does a good jobof tying everything together. Great guitar work on this one.

Thanks for sharing.
