Title: Devil Talkin'
Track Time: 02:44 / BPM: 76
VS 1
"Ain't nobody watching"
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"Only the good die young."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"You only go around once."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"Better grab all the gusto."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
CHORUS 1 (spoken like Rap/Hip-hop)
There's an unanswered question - in Genesis three
I'll have to say - it's always intrigued me.
Adam said he hid - 'cause he was naked
God asked - "Who told you that you were naked?"
- Who indeed?
VS 2
"Go on, you deserve it."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"I'll try anything once."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"It's just experimenting."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
"Whatever gets you through the night."
Dat's dat devil dare talkin'
CHORUS 2 (spoken like Rap/Hip-hop)
That voice in your head - is messin' with you
If you listen to it - you'll be a fool
Learn to discern - right from wrong
You have to resist - if you want to be strong
- Heed the word!
MOSTLY INSTRUMENTAL ENDING
Dat's dat devil dare talkin' (repeat)
Who indeed? (repeat)
Heed the word! (repeat)

How long did it take you to record the backing vocals?
Thanks for the listen and question.
Fortunately, that went really quick. (half hour)
It actually gave me chills as I heard it come together.
I didn't really plan it out. (which I probably should have)
I laid one pass down then came back with three more for a 4 part harmony.
I must have figured that I would throw one away, but I liked all four together.

PS --- I should clarify that I only needed one good pass.
The rest was done with cut/copy/paste.

I love it Sketch. Great tune, man. My new favorite from you.
Your layered vocals are creepy and beautiful at the same time. You should do that more.
Killer hook with the 'Dat's dat devil dare talkin. I like how you keep going back to it.
It has an Oingo Boingo vibe going. But very original at the same time.
Great job man!

Hey Sam,
Thanks for the listen and encouragement.
Yes, "creepy and beautiful", that's a good description for the vocals. They were chilling to me while I was working on them. Just wow.
I really nailed the vibe I was after. And the percussion and delay guitar was so spacey as well. Followed by what another friend described as a "swampy" groove. Definitely a Delta Blues reference.
I love incorporating the blues feel into a song that doesn't follow the typical I-IV-V chord progression pattern, which I became so sick of.
As I may have mentioned in the lyrics topic for this song, the idea here is to tap into the spiritual side of the blues. Of which there is both a dark and light side.

Thanks for the listen and encouraging comments.
I have a dozen songs on the way. Lyrics I wrote last Summer in about a week. - lol
But it has taken me this long to get to the recording.
One benefit of the quarantine is being holed up in my studio.
Though this song is fun, it makes some very serious statements.
If you read through the lyrics carefully, you can see who I am slamming.
These messages are everywhere. But who is the source? "Who indeed."

Hey Sketch, I did pay attention to the lyrics and I think I got the message(s). The delivery didn't have a super serious feel, which I liked a lot.

A clever song. Telling us what you believe I think, but doing it in a very cheery way. Temptation..not always such a good thing!! I love the arrangement. Not my genre of choice maybe, but this is good..uplifting even.

Thanks for the listen and comments, Chris.
This song is rather unique. (even for me)
Seems to fit in a space between blues/spirituals, Rap/talking blues and EDM/Pop.
What was I thinking? - lol
