The Shadows Of The Night
_________________Verse/Chorus

Verse 1:
I have found I lost my sense of hope
And the cost is more than I can pay
For a love that shadows steal away

You and I are slipping down a slope
And our love’s dying from lack of light
Lost within the shadows of the night

Verse 2:
Night and day are subtle shades of gray
Like truth and lies hidden in a smile
That shade our hearts, sep’rate by a mile

Now toe to toe have we turned away
From the love we’ve fail to bring to light
Covered by the shadows of the night

Chorus:
If we can release our love
Find the path into the light
Then we can escape the clouds of doubt
Those ghostly shapes we fight
And find a way to rise above
The shadows of the night

Bridge:
Oh, the twisted lies we weave
The hearts that we deceive
Oh, the secret that we shield
The truth that’s not revealed
How long can we continue on this road
Knowing we have less than what is owed

Chorus:
If we can release our love
Find the path into the light
Then we can escape the clouds of doubt
Those ghostly shapes we fight
And find a way to rise above
The shadows of the night

Coda:
Can we escape the shadows of the night
And see our love shining with the light

Verse 1:
I have found I lost my sense of hope
And the cost is more than I can pay
For a love that shadows shift away
You and I are sliding down a slope
And our is love fading from the light
Lost within the shadows of the night

My take on this: (Adding alliteration and meter)

Title: Shadows Of The Night

Verse 1:
Dear, I've lost all sense of hope
The cost much more than I can say
Fading love.. the shadows steal away

We're headed down a slip'ry slope
Our love's dying from lack of light
Somewhere in shadows of the night.

I like it Charles. I can imagine it in a slow, sophisticated jazz style as well.

"Shadows of the Night" is very evocative, and you use it well, giving it nuances with shades of grey. Ending both the verse and the chorus with your hook reinforces it nicely.

The rhyming scheme is interesting, and again adds to that sophisticated feel.

The bridge provides a good contrast, and feels emotionally stronger. I can imagine someone singing out on that.

Good job!

Thanks SW Joe. I incorporated some of your suggestions.

Thanks RD Man. It could probably work in a variety of genres. Sometimes I just don’t know where to post my lyrics. Much would depend on the music. I was thinking soft rock but blues/jazz didn’t hit me.
