To inspire myself I sometimes do a exercise of free association whereas I start with one word or idea and write down anything that comes to mind: phrases, rhymes, alterations or whatever for about 15-20 minutes. Then I use it to develop a lyric. I do it in the morning immediately after arising. It works, as so with this one. CMA

Alibis
_____________________Verse/Chorus

Verse 1:
Alibis, she picks ‘em from a jar like captured butterflies
And pins ‘em on her blouse like flowers on display
She knows how to use ‘em to augment her disguise
And applies ‘em to assure she gets her way
She doesn’t cry or concede, as she hides behind... her alibis

Chorus:
Alibis, the tools of her illusion
The way she winks her eye
Alibis add to your confusion
Traps you in her supple sighs
Alibis, don’t jump to a conclusion
Trade you for a different guy
She’s found a way to camouflage her lies
Alibis...

Verse 2:
Alibis, she stirs ‘em in her stew and cooks it up on high
And serves ‘em in a bowl with corn bread as a treat
She’s quick to diffuse ‘em when the times arise
And derives a bit of love, a touch of conceit
She doesn’t bow or allow anyone to use... her alibis

Chorus:
Alibis, the tools of her illusion
The way she winks her eye
Alibis add to your confusion
Traps you in her supple sighs
Alibis, don’t jump to a conclusion
Trade you for a different guy
She’s found a way to camouflage her lies
Alibis...

Bridge:
You think you’ve got a keeper
You think you’ve got a catch
Don’t think that you can keep her
She the itch that you can’t scratch

Chorus:
Alibis, the tools of her illusion
The way she winks her eye
Alibis add to your confusion
Traps you in her supple sighs
Alibis, don’t jump to a conclusion
Trade you for a different guy
She’s found a way to camouflage her lies
Alibis...

Post Chorus:
Oh, she has a way to camouflage her lies
Alibis...

Yes...now thats a good county tune ...you got it all there..the lies and deceit and of course the alibi... nice chorus, great structure and whether it was intentional or not, this song screams for harmonizing, the rich wording will do wonderful on 3 or 4 ppart harmonies... and there is enough chorus to really have fun with it.

I really like the first verse here Charles. For me that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I also liked the alliteration on "supple sighs"

I like the hook line and the way you used it. V1 is my favorite too.

Thanks Bunny for your accolades. I didn’t think about harmonies. Though I figured the bridge could be a back and forth between two singers. I can hear the music on the chorus. You confirmed to me it sings. Thanks again.

Wow Charles, I didnt think about the back-forth on the bridge. Rereading... thats perfect for that bridge. And as a singer who would have prefered to be a pip rather than Gladyd Knight...and enjoyed working out the harmony lines...this song really does scream for that. Way cool.
