Just a little country ditty about a bar still loved even after the new owners have changed it beyond recognition.

Honky-Tonk Inner Child

Verse 1
All the neon signs have been changed out
To recessed canister lights
College football ain't on the tv screen
Above the bar on Saturday nights
Some makeover guy from out of town
Took all the stuff we loved down
When you walk in now your mind says "This just ain't right"

Chorus 1
We found out every Wednesday night
The new owner's out of town
So we all show up,
Roll the juke box out,
And throw a few cold ones down
It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

Verse 2
The parking lot's been newly paved
And the spaces all have lines
Peanuts and beer have been replaced
With fruit and cheese and wines
The bar's got places you can charge your phones
Their DJ's never even heard of George Jones
And he won't play Family Tradition at closing time

Chorus 2
We'll all be there on Wednesday night
When the owner's out of town
Send the DJ home
Fire the juke box up
Gonna buy the house a round
It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

Bridge
Each Wednesday night we'll sing along with Willie, George and Hank
Thursday morning rolls around we'll brag about all we drank

Instrumental chorus(1st 5 lines of chorus)

It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

Verse 3
Their clientele six nights a week
No hats or cowboy boots
Buttoned-down collars and khakis
But no visible tattoos
The kitchen staff won't serve anything hot
You won't find a pick up in a parking spot
But Wednesday nights have turned into a hoot!

Chorus 3
(Sooooo)
We'll all be there on Wednesday night
Cause the owner's out of town
Send the DJ home
Turn the juke box up
Someone's gonna buy a round
It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

Instrumental verse

Chorus 3
We'll all be there on Wednesday night
Cause the owner's out of town
Send the DJ home
Turn the juke box up
Someone's gonna buy a round
It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild
Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child

These are some rootin' tootin' good lyrics! I love the chorus. "It's a mid-week redneck paradise and we run a little wild, Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child" - awesome.

Hey Bunny, this make me think back on how much fun honky-tonkin’ would be again. Did you compose any music to it? Nice write!

Charles

Yeah Charles, i have a working tune for it so far. Chords I play that allow me to adjust the lyric for meter etc. It sounds exactly like you think its gonna sound. I was hoping to present this at the songwriters pull this Tuesday, but my better half ( fiancee ) is coming into town for the big three holidays Wednesday, and I may have last minute cleaning to do...lol. We have 2 hours of turns there, but the hour before is mostly jam/workshop and I get lots of melody ideas there from the other songwriters/ musicians.

I loved honky tonking as well. Way too much. Got a 20 year chip to prove it. I thought the mixing honky tonking and psychologys 'inner child' idea was fun. Really glad you like it.

Nice Bunny!

"Cause this bar's still got a honky-tonk inner child"
that's a wonderful line.

The whole lyric just feels good. Should be even more fun if you get to record it! :)
