My first version of this piece had a guitar with a lot of bent notes. One of my "ears" (friends who tell me if I'm out of key or tune) wrote me -

Is this really you? Did you even tune the guitar before recording? If I had a dog, he'd be howling...

I removed that guitar and put in a normal one for me finger vibrato and sliding. He was happy.

But, I'm really looking for opinions on "feeling" of the song, or general thoughts are appreciated. It's simple, only four tracks. I kept it extremely sparse. Maybe too sparse.

Hi Snowman,

I'm not sure I can give much feedback as it's basically a chord progression, but...

it's in tune,

the mix needs addressing (more solo, less rhythm gtr)....

nice chord change to major as a surprise....

sounds easy going which doesn't match the title "Lou's Fight"....I don't hear the tension or fight in the music....ending on the major chord makes me think Lou won his fight (whatever (s)he was fighting for)

Thanks for sharing.

James

PS I wasn't mindful of the Soundcloud page so when the music changed around 2 mins I thought it was going on to a new track. Anyway, starting at 2 mins sounds like a completely different song and one that may be more interesting than the first 2 mins. I'd like to hear the song start at the 2 min. mark and see what you develop from there....reminds me a bit of Slow Dive (and that's a good thing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxwAPBxc0lU

Thanks! That's always my biggest problem.

I kind of figured all this, because it's basically 3 tracks.

It's strange because it's not really a listen to a thousand times song. Thinking about it as I read your response, it's really meant to be the music for video clips.

My favorite artist over the past 20 years just died of ALS and I wrote this as I thought about all the times I saw them live, and endlessly listened to their CDs. Lou's Fight won't end up being the title. But, Lou Gehrig's disease is a fight that can be won eventually. If humans can design a bomb to hit a distinct target from thousands of miles away, you'd think they could figure this out, and so many other diseases. But, then we'd live forever, and really who the hell would want to do that?

reminds me a bit of Slow Dive (and that's a good thing)

The fact it reminds you a bit of Slow Dive (I never heard it before) means I succeeded to an extent. That's exactly what I was going for. There's more a feeling you get from listening to it, then what the actual song offers.

The perfect example of a song that's not only magnificent but gives that feeling is "Rainy Days and Mondays". If you were apt to do yourself in, and that song was playing it's bye bye cruel world.

Sorry. I removed it. I know what I have to do. Sometimes it just takes a nudge, and I got it.

When it's complete I'll repost. But, I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so it'll be a few weeks.

I love me vacation.
