Hey, sorry I've been so absent on the forum lately, I have been madly busy! Regardless, I am BACK with a new original song on my youtube channel! This is a blues piece called I can't escape those blues but unlike my previous videos which have featured either accapella vocals or instrumental pieces on the ukulele, this piece has me singing and playing :)
The link to the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAVKSSasTWI
Thanks,
-Lou

I don't think I've heard blues done on Ukulele before but it works fine!

Would you mind posting the lyrics here?
I like the sound of your singing, but am having trouble hearing the words clearly on your recording.

Thanks, Rainday man and sure!
I have walked
so far
in these old shoes.
But I can
never escape the blues.

I go home
every night,
feeling the fright.
The fear
holds on so tight.

I may not have
worked so hard.
I may have gotten off
to an easy start.
But all I ask
is to escape those blues.

I go home
every night,
feeling the fright.
The fear
holds on so tight

I have walked
so far
in these old shoes.
But I can
never escape the blues.

I can never escape the blues.

Thanks for that. Good song!

The highlight for me is your singing, especially the timing/phrasing of the words.

The music feels quite traditional (which is fine) but the lyric gives it a more modern take.

These lines:
I go home
every night,
feeling the fright.
The fear
holds on so tight.

make me feel that it's about anxiety & depression more than external factors like losing a job or relationship issues.

But the expressive feeling in it is hard-core blues all the way.

Enjoyed it a lot! :)

Thanks so much, Rainydayman, your comments have made my day :) x
And yes,I tend to suffer with bad anxiety and the song is about that so well deduced!

Very cool Lou. Don’t hear many blues songs on the ukulele. Great playing.
Great blues lyrics. Not much on paper but what you have has a lot of impact. Especially:

I have walked so far in these shoes.
But I can never escape the blues.
For me, that’s your hook.

Great singing. I bet your voice would sound great doubled.
And with some harmonies.

Excellent song. I really like it.

Nice delivery on playing and singing.

I would have liked the voice louder and uke softer. Also, slowing the tempo may add more weight to the bluesy of the song. I like when you did stop chords...maybe that could be done earlier in the song as well for contrast/dynamics.

Lyrically, consider sensory details to draw in the listener.

it's about anxiety & depression more than external factors like losing a job or relationship issues.

I could not understand this from the lyrics themselves. Maybe you could personify the fear/ anxiety & depression.

Thanks for sharing.

James

Yeah, my setup is pretty naff, hence the loud uke and quiet voice but I'll see if I can work on that- I also really appreciate the advice,I'm definitely gonna have a play around and see what I can do with the song.
Thanks,
-Lou

Lou,

I love this, this is great!! This thing is dripping with Delta Blues vibe!! This would be great worked up into a full production....with you singing the lead!!!!

Well done!
