Always wanted to write a truck driving song...finally did. Its kind of a cliche, but then a gain, its a fast paced, rockabilly/country truck driving song that is intended to sing along with.
As usual, I welcome and encourage all comments, corrections and suggestions. Thanks for reading.

Eighteen Wheels, Ten Gears and One More Load

( Duane Eddy style guitar riff opening)

Verse 1
I got a hundred miles to go before I sleep tonight
Another cup of coffee and I'll be alright
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load
I left Tallahassee at quarter past eight
Ten hours to Richmond or Im gonna be late
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Chorus 1
Gotta keep moving gotta make them big wheels hum
I get two nights at home at the end of a four day run
Benn missing my honey, but Im doing alright
Cause she sends me all her loving on the phone each night
Eighteen wheels ten, gears and one more load

Verse 2
Back on that blacktop long haul out West
Saint Louis by midnight means I get to rest
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load
Early next morning Ill be Cali bound
Then pick up a back haul for the turnaround
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Chorus 2
My mind is spinning cause I dont wanna be alone
Gonna drive this diesel gonna make my way back home
Benn missing my honey, but Im doing alright
Cause she sends me all her loving on the phone each night
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Instrumental chorus (Duane Eddy style guitar solo on the bass strings)

Bridge:
Hurry home baby is the last thing she always says
Keep your eyes on the road and mind your six,
Well see you in a couple days

Verse 3
Some day soon Ill turn in these keys
Stay close to home and watch some tv
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load
When I walk in that house tonight
Grab my baby and hold her tight
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Chorus 3
Got a two day trip gonna try and make it fast
Cause its one more load and Ill be home at last
Benn missing my honey, but Im doing alright
Gonna give me all her loving in the bedroom tonight
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Wow, Bunny! Have you read my lyric ‘Eighteen Wheels’? It’s the same theme. I even stop in St. Louis and Tallahassee. Do we think alike or what! Very nice, excellent write.

Charles

I really like your refrain "Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load" but it feels like it's coming around a bit too frequently. You might try using it only on the last line of each verse (with something else on line 3) and again in the chorus.

Otherwise it slips into the driving song slot very nicely.
I can almost hear the engine revving and the sound of air brakes!

RDM, at first I really liked the repition of the Eighteen wheels line, having sung it at a couple of songwriter pulls this past week, I may try to edit this one and see what happens when I change line 3 each verse, in a couple of days. It got very nice reviews from performance...by the end of the first verse most of the guitarists and a bass player and keyboard guy picked up the simple melody and played along...interestingly, because of the oft repeated line 3 and 6, they sang along to those lines too. Its always fun when they sing and play along.

This is what I came up with changing out the three line 3 lines from the repetitive 18 wheels lyric.

Using this to repost the altered version.

Thanks,
Bunny

Eighteen Wheels, Ten Gears and One More Load

( Duane Eddy style guitar riff opening)

Verse 1
I got a hundred miles to go before I sleep tonight
Another cup of coffee and I'll be alright
Feels like I'm driving down this endless road
I left Tallahassee at quarter past eight
Ten hours to Richmond or Im gonna be late
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Chorus 1
Gotta keep moving gotta make them big wheels hum
I get two nights at home at the end of a four day run
Benn missing my honey, but Im doing alright
Cause she sends me all her loving on the phone each night
Eighteen wheels ten, gears and one more load

Verse 2
Back on that blacktop long haul out West
Saint Louis by midnight means I get to rest
Stop by the transit office and get what I'm owed

Close my eyes and think of all the miles I drove
When I walk in that house tonight
Grab my baby and hold her tight
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Chorus 3
Got a two day trip gonna try and make it fast
Cause its one more load and Ill be home at last
Benn missing my honey, but Im doing alright
Gonna give me all her loving in the bedroom tonight
Eighteen wheels, ten gears and one more load

Yep I think that works.

You might look again at:
Gotta make this engine hum on down the road
didn't feel as strong as the other two, but it's still fine.
It's a small quibble!

Yeah, coming up with three different lines that all rhymed with the same word was gonna be rough..and to be honest I felt verse one had the weakest. So I am trying...
Feels like Ive been driving down this endless road...
Kind of works for me between whats behind him and whats ahead.
