Ive recently written a few songs about the Southwest and have had a fascination with the Missions of New Mexico. The Mission of San Miguel provides a bit of a background for this story of a young girl having to choose between her desire to explore the world and true love at home.

#23 in my 30/30
As always, corrections, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated (and taken seriously). Thanks for reading

Bunny

The Bells of San Miguel

Verse 1
Seventeen and leaving home
Greener pastures called her name
Walking away from teenage love
Seeking fortune and fame
Windows down in her pick-up
And the wind through her chestnut hair
The sound of pealing mission bells
In the distance filled the air

Verse 2
The lyrics of a heartbreak song
Began racing through her mind
To the rhythm of the mission bells
And the yellow center lines
As she thought about her heartache
Tears formed in her eyes
She was torn between a true love
And what she felt she had to try

Pre chorus 1
With those mission bells calling
And a Summer shower falling
She pulled over to the side
Can her heart be her guide

Chorus
The song that she'll be singing
Is a tune she knows so well
Love always returns to the ringing
Of the bells of of San Miguel

Instrumental bridge punctuated with guitar harmonic tones for chimes

Verse 3
Should she leave to find the dream
She's had since just a girl
Travel far and find adventure
Explore the treasures of the world
Or surrender to a first love
Impressing on her soul
She knows will be forever
And she feels will keep her whole

Verse 4
When the heart is forced to choose
Between true love and a dream
A mind begins to struggle
And the war becomes extreme
When the heart is full of happiness
It will lose desire to roam
And the ringing bells of San Miguel
Will always call love home

Pre chorus 2
With those mission bells calling
And a Summer shower falling
Her heart bares on her sleeve
And love wont let her leave

Chorus
The song that she'll be singing
Is a tune she knows so well
Love always returns to the ringing
Of the bells of of San Miguel

Repeat instrumental bridge with chimes

Chorus
The song that she'll be singing
Is a tune she knows so well
Love always returns to the ringing
Of the bells of of San Miguel

I’m seeing four verses here, Bunny. But that’s a minor point. This is a wonderful tale of young love and heartbreak nicely done. You have the magic of painting beautiful pictures that craftily express your lyrics. I love it!

Charles

Charles, thanks for pointing that out...lol. Cut and paste error... I cant always get the entire lyric to copy before posting...so frequently, it gets done in parts...which means I do a lot of editing in the posting window.yep 4 verses...will change that.

Im happy you liked it. Really appreciate the kind words about my writing.
Your use of language has been quite the inspiration to me.

Bunny
