There are lots of songs about Texas...it's a big state...lol

Enjoy. As usual comments, corrections, and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Bunny

Take Me Back To Texas

Chorus
Take me back to Texas
Thats where I wanna be
Things havent been the same since I've been gone
Give me bluebells in the garden
And the Cowboys on TV
Its the only place I know as home sweet home

Verse 1
I walked myself to New Orleans ten long years ago
For that greener grass and Bourbon Street sounds
All I got was Missi'ppi mud between my toes
So I knew that I just couldn't hang around

Chorus
Take me back to Texas
Thats where I wanna be
Things havent been the same since I've been gone
Give me bluebells in the garden
And the Cowboys on TV
Its the only place I know as home sweet home

Verse 2
To get my kicks on 66 I stopped in OKC
That oh so pretty city called my name
Tried hard to find my fortune drilling for black gold
But I just didn't get that oilman's game
(So)

Chorus
Take me back to Texas
Thats where I wanna be
Things havent been the same since I've been gone
Give me bluebells in the garden
And the Cowboys on TV
Its the only place I know as home sweet home

Bridge
Seems no matter where I go
Before long I cant wait
To hitch a ride or hop a train
Till Im back in that Lone Star State

Verse 3
Spent time in those sandstone hills along the Rio Grande
Had to see those mountain views from Santa Fe
Those painted rocks and desert sands are magic to the eyes
But not enough to make me want to stay

Chorus
Take me back to Texas
Thats where I wanna be
Things havent been the same since I've been gone
Give me bluebells in the garden
And the Cowboys on TV
Its the only place I know as home sweet home

Feel like I'm travelling with you here Bunny.
That's quite the picture you are painting!

You might have an option to put the bridge in ahead of v3 if you wanted to. Seems a bit tacked on where it is to me.

This is great, Bunny! I love TX. I was stationed at Ft. Hood as a liaison officer at the end of my USAF career. My daughter’s been there for over 20 years and my son just left there for KS last year. I may move to TX or NC pretty soon. I love traveling song.

@Alan. Thanks, So glad you like it.

@ Charles. I am a big fan of travelling/road trip songs myself... in my most recent catalogue since I have been here, at least 4 or 5 are what I would call travelling songs...about the trip etc. I havent spent a lot of time in Texas, my sis and BIL were in Lubbock for a few years and I visited that area a bit.almost all of my stomping grounds have been the Carolinas Va Ga Fla Tenn particularly in the mountains of NC and TN. Glad you liked this one...lol ...took a lot of reseaerch to get it right...I stole the hook from a comment at the end of Lyle Lovett's Blues For Dixie..when he closes the song with Dixie hell...Take me back to Texas...was too good to pass up.
