Even a long road ends

Like shadows chasing daydreams at sundown
Or the last touch of darkness, at the dawning of a day
I’ve tried so hard to find my way
Through the false hope that I love you gave
Even a long road ends

Even a long road ends
I guess it’s just our time my old friend
I always thought you’d be there
So much for making mends
Even a long road ends

What comes to mind when you realize it’s over
Is that fate was just a disguise to keep you sober
To say goodbye won’t make it right
It’ll just add pain and subtract life
Yes even a long road ends

Even a long road ends
I guess it’s just our time my old friend
I always thought you’d be there
So much for making mends
Even a long road ends

So much for eternity I guess
We’re caught up in this mess and failed the test
I once thought what we had was much more than pretend
Even a long road ends

Even a long road ends

That’s really good, MP! The second verse is my favorite. Great chorus too.

Nice write MP... I like this a lot...Man! What powerful imagery in tnat first verse...
. I love that ...

shadows chasing daydreams at sundown.
And.
The last touch of darkness at the dawning of a day....

Thats just really good stuff there.. nice chorus...very poignant as well.

Way to go,

Bunny

It's a good one M.P.! So much weariness and resignation caught up in that one phrase "Even a long road ends"

In v1 line 2 you might consider:
A last touch of light at the darkening of the day
just to avoid "dawning" which felt a bit too hopeful.

In the chorus you use "making mends".
It feels like "making amends" might flow more smoothly.
Were you deliberately using "mends" to allow for both meanings?

In the last verse you could try "failed that test' rather than "failed the test", but that probably depends on how you want to sing it.

Thanks Owen! It may need some touch ups since it was an A to Z write. I was thankful that it came at all. They seem so few to be few and far between anymore.

Maybe you should try Bunny's 30 day challenge? See if that can break through barriers for you.

I used to be able to churn out 2 or 3 a day, not anymore. I’ve got at least five good ideas, or so I think, on the burner. I’ve been trying to tell myself to learn to pace myself but the problem is most hit songs are less than an hour write. I try to reach for those perfect lines and when I can’t find them I give up. I’m expecting so much more of myself than I did a year ago. I keep expecting to raise the bar but at some point that bar becomes unreachable. I’m in no way saying I’m outstanding, believe me, but it’s something I hold myself to. I think it’s burning me out. My desire to write is no longer there like it used to be. Example-The perfect love song can’t exist because it’s different in everyone’s mind, but somehow I still expect myself to be able to come up with it. It burdens me.
