Was listening to some Maria Muldaur tracks the other day and heard this great gospel piece called As An Eagle Stirreth In Her Nest and it opens with this incredible Pop Staples style Telecaster/Tremelo riff that got me thinking blues. ( I think the credited guitarist on this track may be Waddy Wachtel or Amos Garrett) So I hit up my ideas and hooks file and grabbed a few lines...So... Think Pop Staples on this one with hand clap rhythms.

My Walkin' Shoes

Chorus
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes ( Oh yeah)
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes
And I'm walkin' right out that door
Won't wait for it to slam (No, no)
Puttin' it behind me
You know that I ain't comin' back no more

Verse 1
We-e-e-ell, I opened up my closet
Found lotsa stuff that wasn't mine
Worked my fingers to the bone
While you had yourself a time
I kept money in your pocketbook
I put gas in your new car
Filled the cabinets up with groceries
Guess I dont know who you are

Chorus
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes ( Oh yeah)
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes
And I'm walkin' right out that door
Won't wait for it to slam (No, no)
Puttin' it behind me
You know that I ain't comin' back no more

Verse 2
(Remember) I was who you turned to
When your world fell apart
I took you in and did my best
To mend your broken heart
I picked up all the pieces
Put them back together too
Now you think its fine to do me
What someone did to you (Oh ohh ohhh)

Chorus
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes ( Oh yeah)
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes
And I'm walkin' right out that door
Won't wait for it to slam (No, no)
Puttin' it behind me
You know that I ain't comin' back no more

Instrumental verse

Bridge
The story of your cheatin' lies
Reads like a scary novel
You can bet Ive closed that book on you
Just do yourself a favor, girl
Change those evil ways
Cause Karma is your nightmare comin' true

Chorus
(So I'm)
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes ( Oh yeah)
Puttin' on my walkin' shoes
And I'm walkin' right out that door
Won't wait for it to slam (No, no)
Puttin' it behind me
You know that I ain't comin' back no more

You know I that ain't never comin' back no more

Wow Bunny, this is great r&b! I can hear Ray Charles singing this while playing the keys. I love it! Good job!

Solid Bunny! There's so much room for expression by the singer against those lyrics. I can imagine this one coming out a treat :)

Thanks Charles and RDM...i had fun with it. For a wordy guy like me ...its challenging to try and actually tell a story in 8 syllable lines...lol ..at least for me. My sisters are 11 & 12 years older than me so while my formative musical years late 60s got extended by having inherited their 45 collection of all those great early 50s r & b hits... still forms the basis of my musical tastes..
