Number 2 of my 30 in 30 challenge. A few of the counts may be slightly off, as always suggestions and corrections are appreciated. Bunny

Every Single Day

Verses 1 & 2

In a diner in Augusta
They kissed across the table
As he slipped the tiny diamond on her hand
Sweethearts since they were kids
Armed with Daddy's blessing
Both counting on a future newly planned

A year across the oceans
To a place he's never been
Where each day is an unknown yet to be
Glad to serve but missing her
Counting down the hours
Seeing things no boy of nineteen should ever see

Chorus1:
Every single day she spends
Is another day alone
Emptiness grows deeper
From the silence of a phone
The pain she feels from loneliness
Cause her love's so far away
And the joy of his returning
Every single day

Verse 3
Sitting in the dining room
Wedding plans on the table
She kissed that tiny diamond held so dear
A new reality set in
She collapsed into her Daddy's arms
When she got the call no bride-to-be should hear

Chorus 2:
Every single day she spends
Is another day alone
Emptiness grows deeper
From the silence of a phone
The pain from looks of sympathy
As they try to turn away
To know he never will return
Every single day

Verse 4:
(Half verse instrumental, softly)

She stands silent in a green field
Full of flags and white stone soldiers
Sobbing and remembering, Every Single Day

Chorus 2:

This is a excellent tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and the families that suffer as a result. I lost many dear friends in the Army and Air Force due to war and conflict and stay in contact with some family members. Thanks for honoring my brothers in arms.

Flows very smoothly, Bunny.
Images all very clear and the story unfolds nicely.

I can easily imagine this one set to music.

Good write!

WTG John. Great work! "Every single day" might work as "Each and every day" Just a thought. Has a "Gambler" feel to it. (Kenny Rogers)

A nickel's wort of free advice:

The pain she feels from sympathetic looks (Or "looks of sympathy" - very poetic)

Seeing things no boy of nineteen (delete:years) should ever see

To know he('s not returning) never will return

Sweethearts since (middle school) they were kids

Joe, great suggestions have edited to reflect some of them. I used Every Single Day as a reminder that they werent able to marry, hence every day that she is single is the harsh reminder that hes never returning and legally she has little if any status. Which is the reason for the repition in the chorus.
I like the suggestions, thanks, all of them addressed areas that i had initial struggles with. Glad you liked it.
