He was chasing a dream
one he'd had all his life
wouldn't listen to wise words
spoken by his wife

she told him to stay home
he was to old to chase dreams
he said he might be the next klondyke
could be inches from those seams

while you've been away
you've missed riches untold
I've had love from my children
while you're out chasing gold

you've paid a big price
for the dreams that you hold
I've had the wealth that you seek
more precious than gold

you're so single minded
I don't think you realise
while you're out digging holes
I'm home with the prize

This day has come to soon
I've sure dreaded that
and now all we'll be left with
is your old miners hat

just an urn on the mantel
your hat on the wall
old rigger boots waiting
for you in the hall

but you're not returning
probably still chasing dreams
checking Gods lands
for new golden seams

I really love a story like this...searching elsewhere for dreams when they are at home... reminded me of my favorite old country song called Pinball Machine by Lonnie Irving from 1960. Was the first song I ever learned to play... nice job. Bunny

I would like to see you add the
"This day has come to soon
I've sure dreaded that
and now all we'll be left with
is your old miners hat"
stanza again on the end.
