Hi, forum, one thing that I think can really distinguish a song from others is the use of lyrics and would like to know if there are any lyrics you really love from songs you like? I'll start off with two of mine.
1) From Billie Holiday's, 'All of Me',- 'You took the best so why not take the rest?' and
2) from Ray LaMontagne's, 'Roses and Cigarettes', -'Oh roses and cigarettes. Pillow case that remembers you. The scent of you still lingers on my fingertips. Till I think I might go insane. When will I see you again'
I look forward to hearing your answers!
Thanks,
-AnonymousLou

Well, I liked this from Evermore in 'Light Surrounding You':
Blue-eyed sun shine on me in the morning light

Hi, Rainyday, I like that- very poetic! That's one to ponder the meaning of over a long afternoon :)
Thanks,

The saddest line I ever heard was in Paul Siebel's Louise (Bonnie Raitt , Leo Kottke)..."Louise rode home on a mail train".
One of the funniest was Steve Goodman's "It'd take ten strong men a hundred years of running loose and wild, to live up to all the stories that you've spread"from his Don't Do Me Any Favors.

Probably my favorite overall is John Prine's chorus from Hello In There

You know that old trees just grow stronger,
Old rivers grow wilder everyday,
Old people just grow lonesome,
Waiting for someone to say
Hello in there, hello.

Hard to to keep a dry eye with that one...I perform the song a lot... i rarely finish it without breaking up...lol

Hi, Bunny, I like that you went for a mixture of emotions and it was nice to see a funny one!
But wow the third one definitely is a teary-eyed-the relatability alone I think could make many a man cry.
Thanks so much for sharing :)

"Too bad it ended so ugly
Too bad she had to go that way
And the wind is blowing cold tonight.Good night Louise. Goodnight"
I like to think I do a pretty effective version of this song.
My favorite is actually from one of my songs:"I had to find me a Honky TonkWhere I wouldn't have to think about you".

Edit: The site is not letting me format this properly.

Hi, Tekboy, nice to see you posting lyrics from original music! I love the phrase 'Honky Tonk' too! I think that has a universal translation!
Thanks,

Tekboy, Louise is probably the most requested song that i do. I usually go to a guitar pull/ circle a couple of times a month and before the night is over, someone's asked me to do it. For me that one line...where she has ceased to be a person and has become cargo really puts it into perspective for me... by the way... i really like your honky tonk line. Bunny
