The Devil in Me

V1
I try to always do what Jesus told me to do.
But it’s hard talking to people like you.
I read the scriptures daily to be the best man I can be.
But morons like you bring out the devil in me.

C
The devil in me don’t give a damn.
He ain’t patient, and he’s a cold-hearted man.
He don’t want to hear you run your mouth the way you normally do.
The devil in me will beat the Hell out of you.

V2
You keep talking at me like I don’t understand.
The truth is I don’t give a damn.
I do the best I can to always show my Christian side.
But one more cross word and I’m gonna dot both your eyes

C
The devil in me don’t give a damn.
He ain’t patient, and he’s a cold-hearted man.
He don’t want to hear you run your mouth the way you normally do.
The devil in me will beat the Hell out of you.

V3
Now just look at what you made me do.
Your face is all purple, black and blue.
I’ll go home and ask for forgiveness when I pray.
But it’s all your fault because you heard me say…

C
The Devil in me don’t give a damn.
He ain’t patient, and he’s a cold-hearted man.
He didn’t want to hear you run your mouth the way you always do.
The Devil in me just beat the hell out of you.

I can almost picture Hank Jr. singing this in the vein of Attitude Adjustment.
Another good one BRD.

There are so many "Outlaw" artists I can imagine singing this, from legends (Waylon, George Jones) to modern (Eric Chruch). Not usually the kind of Country I listen to (I'm more crossover/pop-friendly) but I've always respected it for what it is and great songs like this are why.

BRD, nice work. One suggestion I have, and it’s a very small one, I would replace morons with people. For me morons takes away from the lyric. I really can’t explain why, but it’s just my opinion. Overall, very good!

Yeah, i never liked morons either. Thanks for confirming that.

I originally had ***holes in it's place, but thought it may feel like I was purposefully pushing the envelope when I just thought it was the most appropriate word. I almost went with people, but I had just used it in line two.

I get your point, I missed that. Maybe a slight rework of lines one and two? Change people in line 2 to folks? Throws count off but I’m sure something can be worked out. I try to do what Jesus says to do, But it’s hard to talk to folks like you? Take it or leave it.

These are some good lyrics. Nicely done.
I appreciate the professional presentation.
Verses and choruses clearly marked and copyright in place.

At first glance the individual lines looked too long.
But when I read it, they seemed to flow fine.
You could indicate the natural breaks or leave it up to the musicians.
It looks like you are a lyricist only.

I loved the line, "I’m gonna dot both your eyes"
I laughed out loud at that one.

I like the contrast and straightforward honesty of the lyrics.
Dealing with the issue of wanting to do the right thing,
but realizing that our humanity gets in the way sometimes. (all too often)

Sketch
