YOU'RE MY FATHER

You're my father
The best there is
You've got it all,
All I need and want.
You've got fame, power;
Throne, dominion and a
Miracle working name
Oh oh oh God
You're my father
You're my father

Verse 1:
There's no glory like Your glory
You own all the heavens,
Every space on earth:
The bright and the dark,
The known and the mysteries.
You're my father!

You're my father
The best there is
You've got it all,
All I need and want.
You've got fame, power;
Throne, dominion and a
Miracle working name
Oh oh oh God
You're my father
You're my father

Verse 2:
Almighty and eternal father
The beginning and the end.
Owner of all life and time ;
Of fates and destinies.
Only You could've been my father.
You're my father!

It's a wonderful joyous feeling when inspiration strikes likes that! Nothing quite like it.

To me this feels like a modern gospel song rather than a traditional one in terms of the kind of music that might suit it.

For me, verse 2 felt the strongest. But I don't write Gospel songs, so just take that as a personal reaction.

RainyDayMan, Thanks a lot.
And, yes, you're right. It is a modern gospel song. Your input is appreciated. You don't have to be a gospel musician to comment.
I await more comments from others.

Hi Jo ash,

I really like the verses. I can feel the love in the words.

I am having a little issue with the chorus.

"You've got it all,
All I need and want.
You've got fame, power;
Throne, dominion and a
Miracle working name"

This reads to me as less as magnificence, and more like exploitation or pretentiousness. These things (fame, power, dominion...) are things man desires that are more like greed and evil. Just my take and how I read it. I can see another side, but can't ignore this side too.

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for your kind comments and frankness. I will address your observation this way:

I wasn't trying to paint God in a new or wrong way. Its a song of praise and worship to God, declaring openly who He is to me as a person and what we know He is already through the bible.
The bible called and projected Him more gloriously than my humble self here. He was referred to as King of kings, Lord of lords, Master of the universe, Miracle worker, a famous person and someone with a very big fan base (He fed thousand, healed many), etc. I merely followed its lead.
I wrote it from the perspective of a person who realizes that God is His father (earthly and heavenly) and He is a monarch, as the British Queen. And as His child, he doesn't really lack anything at all, not even fame, power, dominion, etc, which others crave because his father (God) has it all already. He inherits it all automatically. And most importantly, he is happy that he has got such a father.
The lyrics aren't God boastings but the writer appreciating the kind of father he has.

Thanks.
