This isn’t meant to stir any pot. It’s just my take on some of the hypocrisy I see in today’s religion. My opinion, my song. Don’t agree, write your own.

I’d rather listen to a preacher preach to me
From a bible that is torn
One who wears the suit of a pauper
Even if it’s slightly worn

Than listen to a man telling me
Just how much I’ve sinned
While drinkin’ from a chalice made of gold
And holding out his hand

A house built of fools gold, is only
Serving of itself
Like a road of good intentions though paved
Will lead you straight to hell

I’ve seen it first hand and I notice
Even more as I grow old
The lessons are very clear to me I see
In a house of fools gold

I believe in the message but it’s
Been tainted by man
If they don’t practice what they’re preaching than they
Need to understand

They can drive off in their Cadillac, I’d rather
Die and press my luck
Or stand hand in hand with the man who’s giving
Communion in a Dixie cup

A house built on fools gold, is only
Serving of itself
Like a road of good intentions though paved
Will lead you straight to hell

I’ve seen it first hand and I notice
Even more as I grow old
The lessons are very clear to me I see
In a house of fools gold

Yeah the lessons are very clear to me I’ve seen
In a house of fools gold
