I have outlined what I want to do in the next 12 months musically.
I've been thinking of doing a concept album. What is a concept album? It's a cycle of songs expressing a particular theme or idea.
Think Pink Floyd The Wall.
I want do do a series of songs about the endless. Who are the endless?
The endless are Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. They have existed since the dawn of time and are thought to be among the most powerful beings in the existence.
They are distinct from and more powerful than most gods.
The Endless are a somewhat dysfunctional family of seven siblings. They may appear in different forms, but usually have light skin and black hair, with the exception of redheads Destruction and Delirium. Their appearance can change to fit the expectations of others.
I have already written two songs, Delirium and Despair, and I'm currently working on Desire.
Hopefully this time next year I will have finished all seven songs.
I will update this thread as I progress.

Thanks for sharing your plans, Sam.
Based on the success of Delirium, I can hardly wait to hear the whole album.
Should be awesome.
I wonder about the copyright implications.
There are probably other themed albums based on published literature.
I wonder what the precedent is for such works.
If the author/publisher "owns" the seven names (especially as a group)
or the associated stories, there may be issues. Some of this depends on
whether you plan to sell your music or not.
I would hate to see you pour a year of your life into a landmark work
only to be met with a legal battle against powerful enemies.
On the other hand you would be famous.
Even bad press is press, as they say. lol

Good points Sketch. I don't plan on making any money. That's for sure. lol
I'm not sure about the copyright issues. Hopefully there won't be any. The songs were only inspired by these characters. And that is the truth.
I've never used anything written in the series in my lyrics, so it should be fine.
I might have to change the title from the Endless. That might be copyright.
But as far as the individual names, Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium, those words are so broad in there meaning. I should be fine.Last edited on Sat Mar 2nd, 2019 10:26 pm by samiamiamsam

Some interesting items came up. Especially this one.
10 Albums Based on Books and Literature
It might be worth checking out these works to see how
they handled the copyright/credit issues.

PS -- With only a year to complete this epic work,
you better make a schedule to stay on track. It seems that
you will need a completed song every two months.
I was so stoked when I started recording that I did my
first 16 song demos in two months. lol
Not that I recommend it.
Seriously. Sixteen songs between Halloween and New Years Day.
So, two months and two days officially. Still...
Thanks for the links Sketch. I think I'm going to go ahead with project. If there is a copyright issue that ensues, I'll deal with it when or if it happens.
I think I'll be ok. As long as I don't pull direct words from the books and put them in my lyrics.
And I'll be sure not to get into quotes from the characters.
For example, Delirium isn't exactly about the character Delirium.
It's more about a disturbed or disconnected state of mind.
That's the way I'll treat each song. Not based on the characters, I'll just explore the meanings of the words.
I already have a plan for destruction and dream.
Should be a lot of fun.
I agree, it will be a lot of work, but I like the fact that I'm setting a goal. And a time based goal at that.
Still can't believe you recorded 16 songs in 2 months.
You're truly an inspiration.

This sounds great Sam! Agree with Steve's comment; if Delirium is the standard, the album should be awesome!
Will you treat each track individually or is there some overarching design across the album?
Thanks Owen! Good question.
Each track will be self contained, but I will definitely have reoccurring themes throughout.
Like sound design and maybe a guitar or a synthesizer sample that I might use in more than one song.
Or maybe use parts of one chorus on another song. I want to get very creative.
I have a lot ideas. Like certain things going on between the songs.
I might try to tell a story of how all these things effect a person. Despair, delirium, destruction, etc...
I have a lot of work to do. lol
Edit:
I plan on releasing each track separately, and when all the songs are complete, I'll put it all together as an album. Last edited on Sun Mar 3rd, 2019 03:18 am by samiamiamsam

This sounds so ambitious and organized. I can't wait to hear them all. Delirium was really, really good.

Thanks Andrea. Hopefully I’ll have something ready this weekend. I’m working on Desire right now.
I’m also going to redo Despair aka Dolora. It’s a song I posted here a while back but was never really happy with the vocals.
Or the overall recording. Anyways, I appreciate the interest.

I'd call the album "Greatest Hits of the 7 D's". (Waits fit the groans as the pun sinks in.. slowly.. and painfully!) *EG* Last edited on Sun Mar 24th, 2019 06:13 pm by SongWriterJoe

Cool idea Sam. From what I’ve heard I don’t think you have a problem finding an audience. Hope all works out with your endeavor.

Hi Sam, I find your plans both intriguing and ambitious. I'm curious as to how you make your music? Are you sitting at an electronic keyboard? I listened to your "Delirium" and "Despair" and found them both engaging and interesting. I wish the vocals were more pronounced, but other than that, you are getting the emotions across.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to some of my music Paulina.
I do all the music myself. I usually write on the guitar.
But I wrote most of Delirium on bass.
I use MIDI keyboards in some parts.
It’s all recorded on my digital audio workstation (DAW), in my studio/basement.
Yeah, vocals are definitely my weakest link. Everyone always tells me to turn them up in the mix.

The writing of those songs are nice. The lyrics are quite good and flow very well with the melody. Good Job!
