They dont make em like they used to he said
With a tear on his face
And we each share a mem'ry of him
That sorrow and time can't erase

Though it seems much too early I'm guessing
It's just a part of the plan
Cause we all know the truth is tonight
Heaven..... got one hell of a man

One hell of a father
One hell of a son
One hell of a friend
He was second to none

One hell of a husband
Who fought one hell of a fight
One hell of a man's going home.....
To Heaven tonight

They all smiled a little smile
Cause they'd never heard it that way
But the truth is he said it with respect
And an honest, sincere type of grace

He said in closing I came here tonight
So he would know where I stand
I'll miss you my friend, till I see you again
I'm happy that Heaven.......
Got one hell of a man

One hell of a father
One hell of a son
One hell of a friend
He was second to none

One hell of a husband
Who fought one hell of a fight
One hell of a man's going home.....
To Heaven tonight

He lowered his head and he gave thanks
Words from the heart need no pen
We were blessed in this life
To be gathered this night
And Heaven.......
Got one hell of a man

Heaven got one hell.... of a man.....

Very interesting. Is this one about your own Earthly father? Or some friend or aquaintance? A good lyric. Keep writing good songs please.

Thanks Marty! It's just a thought that came to me. To be honest I was kind of wondering what your take on it would be. I didn't want it to sound sacrilegious, because it wasn't Intended to be, so I guess I succeeded. I've had it in my head for a while now but it was a hard write. Thanks!

Your usual flair for a hook and a title! Very good! :)

If it was me, I'd ease back just a little on the "One hell..."s so more like:
One hell of a father
One hell of a son
More than a friend
He was second to none

One hell of a husband
Who fought a great fight
One hell of a man's going home.....
To Heaven tonight

Otherwise it reads very smoothly.

Thanks Owen! I was kind of wondering about what you suggested, from past songs. Thanks for the reply.

Nice. I like it.
But then I love songs about serious subjects.

Thanks for writng about the stuff no one usually wants to talk about.
Very thought-provoking.

Revisions made:

They dont make em like they used to he said
With a tear on his face
And we each share a mem'ry of him
That sorrow and time can't erase

Though it seems much too early I'm guessing
It's all just a part of the plan
Cause the truth is tonight, as we honor this life
Heaven..... got one hell of a man

One hell of a father
One hell of a son
He was more than a friend
He was second to none

One hell of a husband
Who fought a great fight
One hell of a man's going home.....
To Heaven tonight

They all smiled a little smile
Cause they'd never heard it that way
But the truth is he said it with respect
Dignity and grace

Then he bowed his head so humbly
Said until we meet again
We’ll honor your life, and value the time
And give thanks for the time that you spent

Cause tonight,
Heaven.. got one hell of a man
Every word that we heard came from the heart
None needed written in pen

In closing I’ll say
The one thing to take away
Is that life isn’t viewed through one lens
As you sit here tonight, remember this life
And that Heaven.. got one hell of a man

One hell of a father
One hell of a son
He was more than a friend
He was second to none

One hell of a husband
Who fought a great fight
One hell of a man’s going home...
To Heaven tonight....

I like the new version MP, but this part:

Cause tonight,
Heaven.. got one hell of a man
Every word that we heard came from the heart
None needed written in pen

doesn't seem to fit there now.

I'd replace it altogether and put another chorus in there, then the rest just as you have it. It would be a shame to lose the "written in pen" line, but I don't think it's needed.

Gotcha! Yes didn’t want to lose but I questioned it myself. Overall I think it’s stronger. Thanks for looking again,
