Title: Kandy Korn (I don't do requests)
Track Time: 00:00 / BPM: 00

CHORUS 1
I don't do requests.
I can't play your favorite song.
If you want Top 40,
you best just move along.

I'm not a human jukebox,
or some old wind-up toy.
I don't do requests.
I'm not your servant boy.

VS 1
She heard I wrote a song,
about some Carmel Corn.
Off she went -
to fetch some inspiration.

Slyly - she held out her fist,
concealing - some treasure.
Smiling as it - fell into my hand.

"Write a song about this.", she said
of the Kandy Korn she fetched me.
I bristled at the thought -
but was glad to take her candy.

CHORUS 2
I don't do requests.
I can't play your favorite song.
If you want Top 40,
you best just move along.

I don't do requests.
Only play what's been rehearsed.
If I play your favorite song,
that would be a first.

VS 2
Later in the day,
I was getting a little hungry.
Remembering the treat
I got just that morning.

Popped one in my mouth
and just about broke a tooth.
If you want a song,
I'm giving you the truth.

No good can come - of others
writing my songs for me.
I really should know
better than that.

CHORUS 3
I don't do requests.
Only play what's been rehearsed.
If I play your favorite song,
that would be a first.

I'm not a human jukebox,
or some old wind-up toy.
I don't do requests.
I'm not your servant boy.

Based on true life?

I like your chorus, that feels strong. I fell straight into a rhythm there.

Although I thought when I got to this part:
I don't do requests.
I'm not your servant boy.

that there was an option to go for a longer line with an internal rhyme on the first line, so more like:
I don't do requests, cant pass that test
I'm not your servant boy.
that's not the best phrase, but you get the idea

The only other thing I'd say is that being written from a songwriter/performer's point of view may make it harder for some listeners to engage and empathize. But for this song there's really no option there. It may be one that you (and we) enjoy more it than a general audience.

Thanks for your input.

This song is quite self-indulgent, that's for sure.
It was something I felt like I needed to write,
just to get it out of my system.

Yes, based on a real life story.

I was telling one of my bosses about my stuff on SoundCloud.
And explained the theme Motorist Sketchbook
giving the example of the Carmel Corn song.
This song picks up from there.

She wanted me to try to write a song about candy corn.
I changed the spelling to Kandy Korn to help differentiate the two. (Carmel Corn)

To make this work for a general audience it would need to
be very interesting musically. And I think there are plenty of famous musician's
point-of-view songs out there. This one is a bit of a slap though.

Piano man - Billy Joel
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
The guitar man - Bread
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Stay - Jackson Browne
Rock Show - Paul McCartney

Thank you as well.

When you and I were discussing cover bands recently,
I knew it was time for me to complete these song lyrics.

I'm big on "environmental" directives. Being aware of what is happening,
where I am, and what is next. --- I seek signs. --- Ride the wave to rise above.

If life is a Tsunami, we better grab our surf boards. (hang ten)
Surf or die. (might be a song in there somewhere)

- Steve
