I posted a live early version of this a short while ago and took on board some of the helpful advice to improve the song. Recorded using a Boss BR 80 digital recorder. As always the vocals are iffy to say the least. Let me know what you think what you like about the song and any changes you think would benefit it

Lyrics

Summers here again
Should be out with your friends
Been two days since he wanted space
and a week since he saw your face
Swipe right here I am
I wanna hear about all your plans
How you're gonna live by the sea
How you're just the same as me

Chorus

Don't you know i'm out here too
Scratching around for someone like you
Here come our sliding doors
Give me faith in this town once more

Second verse

I'll dry the tears that you've tasted
if you roll back the years that I wasted
I know i'll only let you down
But i'll always want you around
Swipe right here I am
I wanna tell you about all my plans
How i'm gonna live by the sea
How i'm gonna sing good to be free

Chorus

I'm not sure what "Swipe right" means in this context.
Please inform me. Thanks.

All I could think of was the "Swipe right" touch screen function
that closes an app on my phone. LOL

Maybe it is an analogy for "getting out" of a relationship?

I like the instrumental melodic guitar solo toward the end.
That could work as an intro as well. Which could add more detail
and dynamics to the whole composition. Even between verses,
unless that gets to be too much. ???

Hi Steve thanks for listening, swipe right refers to the Tinder dating app where you swipe left or right if you like them or not 😀 good point about that little solo working as intro good idea

Thanks for the explanation of what "swipe right" means.
This adds an interesting element to the lyrics. A decision.

Perhaps there is a way to both partially define what swipe right means,
for those of us who don't know, and to introduce the opposite choice, the swipe left.

There was an old song from the 1980s by Tony Orlando and Dawn
titled: Knock Three Times, which had included this decision aspect.
The song was about a guy interested in the girl in the apartment (flat) below his.
I'm not crazy about the song, but check out these catchy lyrics.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... knock three times
On the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe
If the answer is no
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Maybe there is a way to add some relational tension to your song
by introducing this decision aspect. ???

I think you're out of touch, Steve! Although in the context of the Tinder app, that's probably a good thing!!
I don't think a general audience will have a problem with the meaning.

In terms of the mix, I think this one needs a full on production with drums and bass. Some vocal harmonies would likely work well too if you are up for it.

The levels for vocals and guitar are good, and it's a really clean recording for the guitar. Sounds good!

That's funny. I'm out of touch with the dating site scene.

Still married to my first wife for 30+ years.
I'm just not with the hip dating lifestyle I guess.

No divorces, no alimony payments, no girlfriends, no STDs.
What a loser. LOL

Like you say, "... probably a good thing!!"

Well no wonder you are writing songs about death, Steve. Look at all the other songwriting opportunities you missed out on! ;)

(and sorry for hijacking your thread Kev!)

Yes, sorry Kev.
Hopefully you will indulge our discussion. It is on topic, I think ???

Right, if I write about a failed marriage it would have to be from an outsider's view.

I started to write some lyrics for a song about still being in love with my first wife.
Which sounds racy until you realize I've never been divorced. LOL

Interestingly, I know several men who have been victims in relationship failures.
I have been a support for them.

I don't lecture them or give them advice unless they ask for it.
I just want to be a friend they will feel totally accepted by.
A listening ear that will not be judgmental or critical.

- Steve

LOL no worries guys, a good read :)
Congrats on 30 years of marriage Steve, I managed about 8 and tapped out.
The song is about dating in the modern age and the whole online dating thing, how you get messed about and how it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack to find someone compatible - it's where I met my current other half though not through Tinder itself.

It's the old saying 'write about what you know' I guess.
