country blues written by Toney Wright
acoustic slide guitar, acoustic bass and vocals..Toney Wright
acoustic guitar and drums backing tracks (band in a box)

Whiskey, Dope, Dead Friends, Ex Wives, Wrecked Cars

As I look back on the bridges I have burned
through all the mistakes hard lessons learned
now it seems I'm too damn old to be concerned
I guess some stones are best left unturned

wasted my younger years in smokey bars
whiskey dope dead friends ex wives wrecked cars
now I feel like an old used, abused guitar
a little outta tune I got my scars

I no longer make the scene it ain't my bag
I go where the old men drink and brag
sometimes it all seems such a drag
like an empty pack of Zig Zags

repeat 1st verse

Wow! The guy in this song needs to find Jesus to pull him out of the fire! The Bible says that drunkards will end up in hell. Also called the lake of fire.

That slide guitar really brings some atmosphere to the track. And the whole thing comes together well

Some nice lines here. I particularly liked:
now it seems I'm too damn old to be concerned
now I feel like an old used, abused guitar
a little outta tune I got my scars

Guitar metaphor is apt. such a drag is a little dated but that fits right into the verse, so it adds to its charm.
Lots of novel use of tried and true phrasing. Enjoyed reading and listening.
Forgive my shorthand, typing with my thumbs today.

This is produced really well. Love the melody, however your voice isn't for me (sorry!). "I guess some stones are best left unturned" is a great line.

Hey Greg, Thanks for the listen and comment. Yea, drag and brag are 60's slang. Zig Zags were a popular item in those days.

thanks again,
Toney

Thanks Kev, I never thought much about the producing. I use Mixcraft for mixing. It's easy to use and navigate through and has great effects and it doesn't cost very much. I just pretty much mix to my taste. No hard feelings about the vocals. They are what they are which probably limits my writing because I usually write what I think I can sing. ( not much range)

thanks again,

Toney

Next time I'm down I'll put this on to pick me up. Seriously, cool song, man. Great mood, perfect presentation, tight lyrics. I'm always prone to fooling around with something to see if it can get any better, but I don't have any good ideas for you. Thanks for sharing. Now I gotta go listen to some Christmas carols...
