#22 in the 30 in 30 challenge

I already have the music for this. My favorite jail/prison song is an old country song by Jimmie Skinner...called Doing My Time ...my favorite version is the Marty Stuart/Johnny Cash duet. Always made we want to write a jail song.

Enjoy.

As usual, corrections, suggestions, and comments are all welcome.

I Walk the Yard

Verse 1
Spend my days in the field of this hopeless prison farm
Pulling carrots and digging weeds out in the sun
Your precious letters say your lonely and you're glad I'm out of harm
And you're so grateful I'm no longer on the run

Verse 2
I wanted money for a diamond ring so you would be my bride
Said I'd drive the car to help their get away
While we didn't count on trouble, we found it waiting just outside
They got collared and you know I couldn't stay

Chorus
I walk the yard and think of you
And all the heartache, I put you through
My life of crime, has brought me shame
Whatever happens, I know I'm to blame

Verse 3
Though the prison doors shut quick for them, my partners never talked
My successful flee from justice let me be
But when freedom means you watch your back no matter where you walk
Behind the bars can actually make you free

Chorus
I walk the yard and think of you
And all the heartache, I put you through
My life of crime, has brought me shame
Whatever happens, I know I'm to blame

Verse 4
As I pace this cell and count the days till I get off this farm
Reflecting on my short lived life of crime
Longing for the day when I'm back in your loving arms
Having changed my wicked ways and done my time.

Chorus
I walk the yard and think of you
And all the heartache, I put you through
My life of crime, has brought me shame
Whatever happens, I know I'm to blame
